Yes, it is short-sighted. Haven't you been paying attention to what the Dem Party's leadership has gradually become since the end of the Clinton presidency? The leadership was ANGRY at Bill Clinton for not being far enough Left and they were ANGRY at Bill Clinton for compromising with the Right in order to generate legislation. What part of 'The Left has been drifting farther and farther leftward where their leadership is concerned,' is it that you have not comprehended?

This IS what that steady leftward drift actually does MEAN. Stop and take a good hard look at what you have been supporting, because this really and truly is what the Dem Party's leadership HAS become. Is the light of comprehension finally beginning to dawn?

Revenge is not what we need right now. That is why the actions of those Democrats are so, well, deplorable. We have had gridlock in Washington for four years. Nothing got done in Congress, and Obama ruled by fiat, meaning executive orders. The Democrats should work with Republicans to better our nation. That is assuming the Republicans wish to better our nation rather than themselves and only their constituents, meaning rich entrepreneurs like Trump.

The election is over. Move on. But, you are right. The reactions of some liberals here missed the point of the OP by a mile.

Reading though this thread made me realize something: As a nation we are closer to a Civil War than we want to believe.

Trump followers shouldn't gloat. It's unbecoming.

None, not in protest at any rate. That is exactly my point. The Democrats are setting a horrible precedent.

Generally speaking you are right.... but it's very hard not to gloat given months of leftists' gloating prior to the election and months of leftists' spectacular meltdown after the election. We're only human after all :D

Seems to me that many of these 'protesters' are from safe Dem districts with no fear of voter backlash. I saw this morning that 24 of them were from California. I have a sneaky feeling that if any of these pols were in any type of re-election battle they'd be front and center. Here's an example.

    California Rep. Karen Bass

The lawmaker decided not to attend after conducting a Twitter poll on whether her constituents wanted her to attend. I say pure politics no conviction.

The Dems would never do that, who would grow their food or bring them their coffee?

This is patently false. In fact, just the opposite occurred; Obama refused to work with the opposition party, as both Clinton and Reagan did:

Can't get a liberal here to comment on this...

Yes, but all that is in the past. It no longer matters. What matters is the present and the future.

Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, said this in an Oct. 23, 2010 interview, "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

    BTW, I'm not a liberal.

Right. And Democratic house speaker Tip O'Neill in 1980 called Ronald Reagan "Lazy, cruel and uninformed" and vowed to block him in congress:

    https://blog.nader.org/1985/01/28/tip-oneills-strategic-attack-on-reagan/

In 2000 it was all the rage for Democrats to call Bush a Nazi, after the chad drama in Florida, and vowed to oppose him.

And I'm sure Repubs threaten Clinton's presidency when he was elected in 1992. This is what politicians do.

Just curious, did you read the link where I assert Obama never moderated his approach upon losing midterm elections as successful presidents had in the past?

Can't get any leftists here to argue I'm wrong...

This is what your article said. O’Neill told the president that “in my 50 years of public life I’ve never seen a man more popular than you are with the American people.” This is the same Tip O’Neill who called Reagan lazy, cruel and uninformed at various times last year. What has happened? Has O’Neill, the capital’s highest ranking Democrat, put to bed the party of the opposition when he assured the President that “we’re not going to be obstructionist in any manner?”

No, I didn't read that. It didn't seem pertinent to this discussion. Can you provide the link again? I'll take a look at it.

My point is the fact that 67 Democratic Representatives boycotting this election is a disgrace and it sets a very dangerous precedent. It is a far cry from the shenanigans you are describing.

I'm not disagreeing with you. If you read what I wrote in the other thread, I'm simply pointing out that Obama failed to accomplish much of anything in his second term not because of Republican obstruction, but rather his inability to triangulate after being hammered in the mid-terms, as Clinton and Reagan did.

I understand. Now we have that horrible violence in Washington on Inauguration Day. I am convinced those committing the violence were not protesters. They were thugs, most of them black, taking advantage of the situation to destroy property just because that is what they do.

Today we have hundreds of thousands of protesters around the world, a half million in Washington alone, clogging up the streets and delaying a parade.

Counting the 67 Democratic members of Congress who were a no-show, Inauguration Day was a black mark on America. We are in for a rough ride with the Trump Presidency. Trump is an angry man elected by angry Americans. To those who voted for Trump, always be careful what you wish for. I am beginning to wonder if some Trump voters are today regretting their decision. Trump appears to be a divisive President. Can millions of protesters around the world be wrong? In modern history this has never happened before.
