The Decision In The Amber Heard And Johnny Depp Case Will Silence Survivors All of the camera crews swarming the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial are heading home, the trending hashtags in support of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor are dying down and late night hosts have moved on to satirize the next big news story. What remains of the highly publicized defamation trial is the mental math everyday victims of gender-based violence are doing right now ― trying to figure out if it’s worth speaking up or better to stay silent. Right out of the Huff mouth... No.. the message won't silence survivors. If anything, it will embolden some survivors as there are plenty of men that are abused and carry this on their sleeve. Depp proved he was more a victim and Heard was a blatant liar. I do hope that is changes the minds of those that like to throw out false allegations. Every tweet calling Heard a “lying bitch”; the mob mentality of support for Depp; the knee-jerk reaction to sanitize Depp’s violent history because Heard was also sometimes violent. Survivors and victims are reading all of these things and noting who in their lives is safe to disclose to and who isn’t. For the love of Pete!! You do realize there was actual audio of Heard abusing and assaulting Depp while Heard had ZERO proof of Depp assaulting Heard! HuffPo supporting such a disingenuous purveyor of false accusations actually does more harm to actual victims than to this phony. Good on the jury for calling a spade a spade here!
Heard is the most hated female by women right now. Especially from actual survivors of domestic violence. She told the world she was the representative of abused women just to find out she is a lying witch. I truly hope this destroys any opportunity she has moving forward as she has done nothing but **** on all women in real situations.
You have several problems if you are Heard. The first problem is that you are in fact Heard and while Heard makes a very compelling narrator, she is only truly believable as long as she is the only one telling the story. Once others begin adding their stories to the narrative, she is the one who, bit by bit, detail by detail, starts losing some veracity. . Amber forgot to collect credible cooberating witnesses before she wrote her Washington Post Op Ed. and before she tipped off the paparottzi. The second problem, is that she just did not land skilled and experienced courtroom talent. Watching, I would never have guessed Elaine Bredehoft to have the kind of reputation as a 'super-lawyer' that her resume describes. She must not have spent a lot of time in court recently, because during cross or redirect she reminded me of some my Dad's third year evidence students and I am not talking about any the passing ones! It was actually embarrassing. Throughout the entire trial, Heard's team was simply out-Lawyered. A huge part of this case was 'expert' testimony, and somehow this legal team found the single most argumentative, and arrogant 'expert witness' (Dr. Spiegel) I have seen. He came across as someone who saw himself as the smartest person in the room and demanded everyone else, including the jury, concede the point. That's just not a good look on an expert in pschiatry of all things. . This verdict's message is to people who claim first to be victims of abuse and then of sexual abuse, and make that latter adjective modified claim for the first time, in space in the Washington Post. Its a valuable message. It may be very hard to legally defame a public figure and be held to account, but its not impossible.
The message is that the institution of Marriage is dead, and people killed it. For men, there's increasingly little to no value to marriage, as any day your spousal partner can upend your life and for what? For coitus? Why do we have a complicated system when animals can do the deed with little fanfare? Sometimes we're too complex for our own good.
With some of these people men aren't allowed to be victims. It is odd though I've known dysfunctional gay couples dysfunctional lesbian couples and dysfunctional heterosexual couples. The ones that have the most physical abuse are always the lesbians.
How about this message: Don't lie about being a victim Actual victims should celebrate some phony baloney scam artist being busted.
The message is "Just because you are a woman you're not automatically going to be believed over a man any more". Good news for Joss Whedon, Woody Allen and everyone who's been a victim of the #MeToo hysteria.
This was a canny move from Depp, he knew that he could take her to court and win with the evidence he had therefore rescuing his career, people will forget about the Sun verdict and remember that it was actually a tempestuous relationship rather than him being a wife beater. If I was him I would make a conciliatory gesture and not demand the money from her, just ask her to make that charity contribution.
My hope is that it qualifies MeToo a little more, in that you can't go screaming about abuse and try to take down someone's career when you were as much a part of giving the abuse as you claim the other person was.
The Heard verdict is a real setback for liars. The Lying Slanderin Fake News Media Lost the Depp-Heard Trial/And the lifestyle influencers turned court correspondents won. “The ‘mainstream media’ coverage seemed to start with the assumption that Heard was 100% truthful, Depp was as good as a convicted abuser, and that all cases of women accusing men of abuse should be taken at face value without any effort of proof or consistency…. Tiktokkers covering it while potentially coming from their own subjective positions seemed to understand the trial better than the mainstream media which decided from the beginning that Heard was 100% the victim and continues to see anything other than that as somehow setting back the Me Too cause rather than strengthening it by sorting through false or seriously questionable accusations with care and focusing on clearer cut cases of pattern abuse.”
