Modern Libertarians are people who want to partake of the benefits of society without paying for them or following society's rules.

Republicans are people who want to partake of the benefits of society without paying for them or following society's rules, while destroying the earth, defrauding consumers and government, and bombing mankind.

    Any questions?

Interesting. To be fair I think Libertarians are generally able to argue their point of view much more intelligently their your average Republicans.

For example, look at how each group criticizes the president. Agree with them or not, most Libertarians criticize the president for (*)(*)(*)(*) he's actually done! Republicans by and large just make up a bunch of stuff, ranging from conspiratorial to just immature and silly. Most of it they get from Fox News or Rush Limbaugh no doubt. But at least Libertarians aren't so jaded that they can't see that both parties have problems, and I agree with them on most social and foreign policy issues.

My beef with Libertarians is that I'm just not totally sold that the free market will work as they say it will work. I think trying to install a free market system that they advocate will lead us exactly back to where we are now. Plus, I just believe in providing government benefits for society in general, and they don't. I guess it's a fundamental difference in our beliefs.

Wrong, libertarians want to do away with pointless, excessive rules while keeping the basic, universal ones in place.

Wouldn't it be nice if people stopped clogging the PO&B section with what they think some other side believes?

Neither one of those is an accurate descriptions. It is too cartoony.
