Ok, so nearly everyone quit their jobs and went on government expanded unemployment benefits. They are calling it the great resignation, or something similar. So, what do you think about it? I think that we've set a precedent that people will not go to work if they have government benefits. So, I think the government will never repeat this unemployment benefit blunder. We've seen the outcome. Later, during the next bad recession, we aren't going to bail out the population anymore.
Democrats wanted to test if folks would be happy with total dependence to them. They got a mixed response. There are actually some who yearn for the plantation, and democrats certainly are willing to lead with the lash.
Too many lazy ass people got used to suckling from the government teat and don't want to go back to work...
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BENEFITS ENDED ON SEPTEMBER 6,2021 and 23 states ended their benefits. People are quitting now looking for more pay and BENEFITS.
I hope the find what makes them happy.... more pay for no more production, will give them exactly what they've earned, and the rest of us who actually have been working all this time, will deal with the results also. Yay, people who have no clue!
Your thought is right on, but your predictions are way off. It all depends on the government. Unemployment benefits and economic support are seen as a boon to Democrat party control and will be heavily supported.
It was really the "and you don't have to pay any rent for a year and a half" part of the equation that was the greater problem IMHO.
Many of our largest corporations and banks have been reporting record profit margins which is largely why their stock has been going up in value. They are profiteering off the current situation of shortages by jacking up prices.
Which Republican doesn't support unemployment benefits and "economic support"...whatever that is? I don't remember any Republicans who ran on removing those programs.
The govt has set the precedent that its willing to print all the money it needs to operate and inflation be damned. I expect the bennies to continue, as well as the hig corporations buying up all the rental properties and replacing workers with automation. Eventually the average human will be so dependent that they'll accept anything in exchange for room and board, and we'll all be powerless peasants again.
I wasn't referring to the general baseline unemployment benefits or economic benefits like food stamps and Medicaid, all around for decades. I was referring to the large excesses brought about by hyperbolic (and politically expedient) reaction to COVID like the large additions to unemployment by the federal government and the simple sending of checks by the federal government to anyone that breathed, currently limited to children -- all of them, and the massive forgivable loans given to businesses. Some of which were supported by Republicans but not to seize and increase political control.
They will grow the blunder. It is what they want. You can't "fundamentally transform" the nation without first destroying it so that it can be replaced.
I disagree the government will learn their lesson. The pandemic has given the left a great opportunity to push their socialist agenda.
I think as jobs become more and more automated, there will simply not be enough jobs for everyone. By necessity, there will be many people, and eventually most people, reliant on the government for income.
Since the benefits ended over a month ago, it's clear they are not the reason why people refuse to work low income jobs. The reason is that employers refuse to cut into their profits to pay workers a proper living wage. In a thread I opened months ago, I said that I think this is great! It will help cut into the enormous income gap that we have been building for decades. Sweat shops will go out of business. And other small businesses will have to revise their business plans and figure out if they are profitable enough to stay open.
I have another post here that's titled......Do You Prefer Capitalism or Socialism? What you've described here is socialism in its finest hour.
Let's not forget that people became spoiled by their time off work and now they're trying to negotiate better terms of employment. They are in denial about how economically infeasible their demands are. Is this an early stage of grief? When will we reach the acceptance stage?
Which is why Andrew Yang's Universal Basic Income was something different and something to be applauded for bringing it up as a worthy topic of debate. The times are changing and we need to change with them...unless poverty and misery are your thing.
You sure seem to be throwing a lot of judgment between your words there. Do you normally get pleasure in others' misfortunes?
I'm not saying it is good or bad. More like it is inevitable. It's been moving that way for quite a while, and I don't see it slowing down. Do you?
It may be a semantic point but I think a majority (large or small I don't have any idea) believe that the destruction of the constitutional republic or anything currently good plays no part in their fundamental transformation. The wild cheering when Obama promised it in 2008 is one indication that they have no clue and don't even think much about it. Such destruction will be/is wildly poo-pooed here on PF for instance. If, God forbid, the destruction and then transformation is successful this large mass of people will be the ones wandering around muttering, "What in the hell happened. We didn't see that coming!" as they find themselves part of the massive downtrodden like everybody else they assumed were supposed to be the peasantry.
