It’s doubtful anyone really knows how many centuries have passed during which young people have had the misguided notion they are invincible, cannot be hurt, and that “bad things” always happen to someone else.

To this day, leaders of governments, religions, extremist groups, and others seeking wealth and power have been able to depend on this belief of invincibility by youths to recruit followers for all sorts of meaningless wars and crusades. Uncounted millions discovered too late their invincibility was only imagined.

This same inability to conceive of being touched by a crisis is as strong in today’s young Americans. But unlike past generations, people in their twenties, thirties, and even forties easily fall, or fell into the American sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, and lack of exercise, which in past generations didn’t occur until most people reached their late fifties or older.

Obesity and the ailments it causes, in the past were found mainly in older people, but high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and other serious medical problems are now being found in children. Many people of all ages do not realize they are already suffering from one or more of these conditions, or how costly they can be to treat. Young parents and families blissfully unaware of this must be made to understand.

With these very expensive ailments afflicting increasingly younger people, the Affordable Care Act and the benefits it provides should be every bit as important to young individuals and young families as it is to older Americans. The experiences of many older people have proven to them just how financially damaging a major illness or accident can be, especially to those uninsured or underinsured.

Conservatives and neoconservatives have been thrilled with every setback of the ACA, and are undoubtedly cheering that people forty and under are showing little or no interest in the ACA. In their posts here on these boards, right-wingers have made it clear that keeping quality health care from tens of millions of Americans is a very important part of the conservative/neoconservative agenda, and they must certainly believe this particular group’s lack of interest in the ACA will further that goal.

The right wing’s need to serve the very rich, in any way possible, at the expense of all other Americans has reached the level of psychosis. Conservatives and neoconservatives have long been willing to sacrifice the wellbeing of average Americans to further enrich the one percent and Big Business; and as time passes they are becoming more and more eager to sacrifice their own wellbeing and that of their loved ones to achieve this.
