The Liberal Minority is the Real Fringe

This is an interesting article in the Daily Mail (written by James Lucier) regarding conservative attitudes in the United States.

Reading this article confirms to me a fact that is pretty much self-evident. That the lefts dogmatic ideas and drive to make US ONE do not resonate in the slightest with the common man. The common man being somebody who actually lives in the real world, has a proper job and pays taxes and as the article says, "just wants to get on with life" (as opposed to career politicians and those who hide away in the halls of academia). The survey shows that more people consider themselves political and culturally conservative and the views on everything from religion to guns seem to reflect this.

What makes this even more remarkable is that it comes after decades of subversion, intense efforts at brainwashing, culture war and the completion of the "long march through the institutions". It must annoy the self-anointed messiahs no end that the average person clings to antiquated beliefs and instincts and rejects their oddball anti-family, anti-nation, anti-religion, sexual free for all cult despite their relentless and underhand efforts to create a common mind / hive mentality.

Ask any political guru worth his salt, and the savant will explain carefully the facts of the ideological landscape. On one end of the spectrum you have the Left. On the other end is the Right. In the middle are the centrists. There is a passion to label all candidates and voters and place them somewhere along this line.

In practice the mainstream media, the hired political tacticians and other operatives in the ruling class have a sort of shorthand rhetoric. The Left is presented as the normalnothing to see here, folksand the centrists are people who have unaccountably strayed from the normal and will ultimately come home again if we can just get the messaging fine-tuned.

The ruling class sees itself as the normative leaders of the nation. They have a vision to impose upon America, but they have a difficulty in that their vision is not accepted by most Americans.

The voters on the Right are exasperating people. They never are referred to just as the Right. They are inevitably called the Far Right, the Extreme Right, the Radical Right, or simply fascists or racists. The ruling class believes that these people constitute a dangerous fringe that is beyond the pale of decency and a threat to democracy.

So much for the self-appointed mainstream view.

Every year the Gallup Poll conducts a survey of U.S. voters asking them where they place themselves along the political spectrum. For the last decade or so the results have been the same, give or take a few points. In the most recent poll, 41 percent of the sample told the pollsters that they consider themselves conservative. That number has increased slightly, perhaps emboldened by the destructive excess of the Obama revolution. In addition, 36 percent called themselves moderate. Only 21 percent claimed to be liberal.

So heres a bummer for the members of the ruling class: They themselves are the fringe extremists. The conservatives are twice in number and by far the largest political element in the nation. Putting the conservatives together with the moderates, one can conclude that 77 percent of the voters are fleeing from the designation liberal. The ruling class may think of itself as the vanguard of the proletariat, but the proletariat doesnt want to have anything to do with the self-anointed mainstream.

But maybe the voters are just confused. Poor things, they just dont understand the negative implications of what conservative means. It is true, thank God, that the people are not philosopher-kings. They are not trained in the finer points of intellectual disputation. They are just trying to get on with life, bitter, perhaps, and, in Obamas favorite phrase, clinging to guns and religion. How can they know whats good for them?

Rummaging through the work of major polling companies, such as Gallup, Pew, Rasmussen and Marist, its easy to see why 71 percent of Americans think of themselves as conservative or moderate. We find huge pluralities and majorities for views that give apoplexy to the ruling class.

--53 to 55 percent of Americans do not appreciate the great benefits which the elite prepared for them in the so-called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The more they find out about it, the more they want Congress to repeal it, no matter how the U.S. Supreme Court decides.

--Presumably calling into question the efficacy of Darwins thesis, some 60 percent of Americans remain stuck in the Neanderthal stage of development. 25 percent dont believe in evolution at all. Whats worse, 36 percent have no opinion either way. The elite is in despair. How can anyone have no opinion when science has decided that only one opinion is allowed?

The mainstream says that the matter of abortion was settled by the case of Roe v. Wade in 1963. Only its not. A Marist poll last January showed that 79 percent would not allow abortion after the third month, and 51 percent would not allow it at all, or only in cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother. Only 12 percent would support the extremist Obama position that abortion should be available to any mother any time she is carrying the child.

--50 percent of the people say that the Bush and Obama bailouts were bad for the country. 71 percent say that the government should just let the big banks fail. Only 36 percent want more bank regulation. No wonder 67 percent say the nation is on the wrong track.

As for religion, the polls have more bad news for Obama and his ilk. 92 percent of Americans say that they believe in God. The remaining eight percent include not only non-believers, but tens of thousands of practitioners of non-theistic religions, such as Buddhism.

Two thirds of American adults say that they are members of a church, synagogue or mosque, a number that has stayed steady for years. This compares to 44 percent of Canadians and only 28 percent of Britons.

Christianity remains the dominant religion, contrary to those who proclaim that the United States is strictly a secular nation. 78 percent of American adults identify with some form of Christianity. Two percent say they are Jewish, and one percent say Muslim. Two thirds of the Christians are Protestant, and one third Catholic. The Church of the Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, among whose adherents are the presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his family, constitute 1.9 percent.

Now here is more astonishment for the ruling class. These church-going folks are Bible readers. Although bible statistics are hard to ascertain, it has been estimated that 25 million copies of the Bible are sold in the United States. every year, far surpassing any book that appears in the New York Times best seller lists. Gallup finds that 31 percent say that the Bible is the actual word of God, to be taken literally. Another 47 percent say that it is inspired by the word of God. So 78 percent attach a metaphysical meaning to the Bible and consider it a holy book.

Is it just coincidence, then, that the 78 percent who have a special regard for the Bible in their lives is virtually equal to the 77 percent who call themselves conservatives or moderates?

I don't know how many articles I've read that label Cons as someone on the far right. I'm guessing that number is about 0, or maybe if I was reading a really left wing site, maybe that number would go up. But it seems to me, that this author is just confused on a couple of things. For instance the religion part. All he proved was that we are a nation full of Christians, he didn't prove if we're a Christian nation. And believe it or not, the 8% he cited, as non thesitc beliefs, can also be called Athestists.

There's countless examples in the "mainstream" (modish left) media where it's implied that somebody is extreme for holding culturally conservative views. Look how the left treat any mainstream conservative political pundit. Just pick one at random. You can find hundreds of examples on this very forum where people who hold views that would have seen perfectly natural and normal some 40 years ago, or even as late as the 1980's are labelled as backwards at best or at worst closet Nazis.

When people do not adhere to a belief system then the only other option left is subversion, backed up by coercion and slander. It's the way all ideology ends, especially one with a messiah complex that views itself as the lone voice of compassion and reason.
