Really. It's going to be funny when the Mormon math teachers starts teaching your kid religion ... and the Scientologist gets to teach your kid about about whatever the hell Scientologists teach as religion.

ok it was early anti-Catholicism that push the school funding issue to the courts

"Anti-Catholicism and the History of Catholic School Funding"

    https://www.catholicleague.org/anti-catholicism-and-the-history-of-catholic-school-funding/

    Protestants did not Catholics

"Catholic schools began in the United States as a reaction against a growing publicly-funded school system that was essentially Protestant."

"The firestorm began when William H. Seward, the newly elected governor of the state addressed the issue in a legislative message delivered in January, 1840. He recommended the “establishment of schools in which (immigrants) may be instructed by teachers speaking the same language with themselves and professing the same faith.”7 In response, Catholic schools in New York City petitioned the common council for a share of the state school fund distributed through the Public School Society. The Society answered with a message that resonates with today’s rhetoric. It argued that by funding Catholic schools, money would be dissipated and that “sectarian” Catholic education would replace the common schools. The common council agreed and the Catholic petition was denied."

"Bishop Hughes was in command and would take a far more confrontational approach to the question of school funding than his predecessor.8 Blasting the Public School Society for corrupting Catholic children, Hughes submitted a renewed petition demanding Catholics be given a portion of the state funds for schooling."

it went back and forth, but finally the courts just ruled on federal funding... for any religion as it violated the constitution and many states even made stricter laws banning funding of religious schools, or public schools funded by religion

so we can thank Anti-Catholicism for some of our religous freedom we know today

when the government started to also fund Catolic schools, Protestant did not like that, but trying to deny them funding, also made the courts ban all federal funding for school that push religion on their students

do you think Atheists had the power to do this back in those times.... get real

Christian infighting started it due to anti-Catholicism, but once they won in the courts based on the 1st amendment, it opened the door for anyone to complain about a public school pushing a religion other then their own on their children

if ones Sunday school sucks so bad that they want a public school to teach religion to their child... that is sad, get a new church

support ones own religion, stop asking the tax payers to fund it

    http://rationalrevolution.net/articles/history_of_the_separation_of_chu.htm

"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call for help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one.
    - Benjamin Franklin: in letter to Richard Price, October 9, 1780"

Where does it say we are a Christian nation? Now you see why people are taking action. What about all the Jews are they not Americans? Am I not an American because I am not Christian? We are not a Christian nation and that is the very reason we were created as a nation

If you are a Christian you believe God made all creatures great and small that exist on earth. And if you believe in the Christian bible it clearly states,"what so ever you do these the least of my brethren you also do unto me".As well as do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

This data is from countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. I agree that this is an under reported issue, and that the American left is lacking in acknowledging this issue, but the comparison you made in your OP was an article about violence against LGBTs living in the United States.

I could have phrased it differently I suppose.

    I did intend worldwide.

Thank you for pointing out the error and I will take better care in the future to clarify my points.

No because we are a Christian nation founded on the principles of Christ, not Allah.

Yet the first amendment specifically says “shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”. Strange they put that if they were founding the nation on the principles of a singular religion.

We were also founded as a nation that supported slavery and the disenfranchisement of women.
Should we go back to that as well?

Shouldn't make laws based on it but what does being founded as a Christian nation have to do with that?

That law lady at the Supreme Court has blinders on for a reason.

We have always been a Christian nation and even today over 70% of people identify as being Christian.

That number has never gone lower than that either, in our entire history.

The founders new we were mostly Christian, they were themselves, but they did not want to risk a theocracy so they added that in there. Not because they believed there should be separation but to prevent something bad from happening.

    It was a safeguard.

The founders would have no issue whatsoever with a school placing the ten commandments on their lawn.

Because most Americans are Christian does not mean we were founded as a Christian nation. And your 70% figure, you probably won’t be able to say that much longer:
    upload_2019-6-12_21-25-22.jpeg upload_2019-6-12_21-29-5.png

Source for any of this or is it just your opinion?

I’m pretty sure putting the 10 commandments endorses a religion.

I would even argue “in god we trust” that appears on our currency does as well although courts have ruled it can stay because “god” is not specific to any single religion.

You can find it right next to the part that says we aren't a Christian nation.

We are all very often defined by what makes us different
If you are Jew, they don’t care what country you come from...You’re defined as a Jew
If you’re black they don’t care what religion you are… Your defined as black
If you are from Mexico, ....your are defined as Mexican

If you notice it is usually the group that is discriminated against. The Jew the black or the Mexican even though we’re all Americans

The U.S. Constitution is a secular document. It begins, "We the people," and contains no mention of "God" or "Christianity." Its only references to religion are exclusionary, such as, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust" (Art. VI), and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (First Amendment). If we are a Christian nation, why doesn't our Constitution say so?

You're welcome to believe that, but regardless, the only Christian murderers and rapists are those who have repented.
Paradoxically enough, had that been the case in America circa 1790, there would be no such things as the religious test clause and the establishment clause.
Because the Constitution was written to guide the behavior of the government, not the People.

They...and you...realize that a theocracy would be a dangerous thing. What do you think you are advocating if NOT a theocracy?

So religion is a club that you can get kicked out of. But then they let you back in if you say you’re sorry. I think I am going to rob a bank then go to confession and god will let me back in the golden bed in the sky when I die.
You’re right the Constitution was written to guide the behavior of the government but I think you are missing the point that the government is made up of people and the reason the constitution doesn’t state that we are a Christian country is to control the behavior of the people who want to impose their religion on us

Things like the right to publicly display symbols of our faith.

I am not asking laws to be based on God.

Letting people in malls say Merry Christmas to their customers.

    Stuff like that.

Okay so in first grade we learn about Islam and all the wonderful things Muhammad did. In second grade we learn about satanism and all the lies told to you by Christians.

do you really want religion taught in schools or do you want your religion taught in schools?
