I’m aware of the court cases. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Trump was the worst president in US history for gun rights. He opened the door to redefining legal gun definitions in order to confiscate whatever he was targeting. Biden is also doing this for 80’s but he didn’t open the door to this tactic. Trump did.

There are however still lawsuits going on over it. The NRA literally helped rewrite the definition of a full auto as well which caused me to drop my membership and I let those pukes know exactly why

The legal aspect was reviewed by the Supremes and they were ok with it.

A bump-stock is not a gun, its a toy, which the killer utilized to murder lots of people.

As a gun owner it didn't bother me, but I see your point that it might set a precedent (the Supremes LOVE that word.......well, they used to love it until they trash-canned it with the abortion case).

The stock end. It was never classified as a full auto until the definition of full auto was redefined without congressional approval

It’s a stock… not a gun. The only way it was classified as a gun was to redefine it without congressional approval. Are you applauding that act?

If you wanted to use that argument you may as well advocate to ban all guns

They once changed the definition to include a shoestring, and that was years ago under a different administration(also without congressional approval) so I wouldn’t say Trump opened that door. He just walked through an already opened one.

Edit: I also don’t agree with the move at all. Just like I didn’t agree with the shoestring one either.

No, I don't think I want to do that. A bumpstock is not a toy, it is a modification used to circumvent a law because people still believe the law is unjust. I have a hell of a lot of fun playing with my guns but they are not toys. Guns are like a pet lion, you only get one mistake.

So they didn’t redefine anything without congressional approval and never ordered a confiscation order on it. So long as it wasn’t installed on the gun it was legal and it was technically pulling the trigger without a human finger for assistance so it already fit the current law.

This one is different because the bump stock still required a human finger to engage the trigger each round went off.

And… It also wasn’t a confiscation or destruction order like Trumps, so it’s complete BS that Trump done that. It also violated private property clause in the constitution being it made you lose property without payment.

I will still argue that Trump was the worst president for gun rights in history.

They did the same thing for the bump stock ban. They changed the law the same way they did for the shoestring: determined it was a machine gun based on the definitions in the NFA. I do wonder if the shoestring had been taken to court like the bump stock change did, what the decision would have been. If they declared it to not be a machine gun and state their ruling in certain ways, maybe the bump stock ban wouldn’t have happened, or if it did, the decision would have been different when it was adjudicated.

As for the shoestring, of course they weren’t going to confiscate and destroy all the shoestrings in America. When they made the law, just having a shoestring with two loops, not even attached to a rifle, was made illegal and defined as a machine gun. The link I gave you was them rescinding that, to where it has to be actively attached to a weapon.

While I don’t necessarily disagree, the door was already opened and he walked right on through. I believe very heartily in the shall not be infringed if the 2A. Sadly, the highest court in the land has decided that it can be infringed, despite the clear wording in that amendment.

Whether legit or not - wastes of time and money and just furthering the divide in the country

Now Biden will be impeached at least once if not more to waste more time and money

When Trump wins (if he runs) in 2024, I will have missed what impeaching him accomplished

I agree with your last point, but I am resigned to the fact that we will get garbage candidates again
