How about for a change forget all of the statistics theories and what if scenarios and let's take a fundamental look at the issue and the goal we are after.

Correct me if I am wrong but we are trying to limit if not eliminate the killings and robberies and violent crimes right?

Ok well I am a pretty spiritual guy and I find most all of my issues can be resolved with teachings in the gosple. Especially when i look at the spirit of the law as opposed to just the letter of the law.

Jesus told us that if our hand causes us to sin then cut it off and if our eye causes us to sin pluck it out. Essentially the message being separate yourself from what causes us to sin. And if we eliminate what causes us to sin I garuntee we will commit fewer sins.

Now with that lesson in mind if we want to solve our problem we must ask ourselves "what is it that causes us to sin?" No most all of us will agree the gun doesn't cause us to kill. There is a deeper issue at hand and in fighting against these atrocities is what you really want we will start looking for what causes these atrocities and how to eliminate that influence.

The gun control issue is horrible. Even if it helps it is like putting a bandaid over a cut that needs stitches. It is a red herring not only does it not address the real cause but it distracts us by making us feel like we are doing something to solve the issue when in truth we are still bleeding.

Let's eliminate this red herring and find a real solution to what makes us sin.

Your fundamental assumption is wrong. Gun banners are not interested in reducing crime or improving public safety, they are not even interested in facts. Gun banners simply don't trust other people, they don't want you to have a firearm. They think they are worthy of a firearm, just not anybody else.

Root out the Gov. officials and employees who perpetuate the illicit drug trade in the U.S., and most of this will disappear, as if by miracle. The problem is corruption.
The bigger problem is that this current iteration of humankind will never evolve to the point where we are collectively capable of fixing our social ills.

    This seems a bit illogical.
If you trust other people not to commit violent crime, then why do you need a gun to defend yourself?

I respect the rights of others to legally carry a gun and I expect the same in return. I don't trust other people to not commit crimes, but I have no problem with honest people being armed. Criminals will be armed anyway. I deserve to be able to defend myself.

That's a good question, and there are several aspects.

People in general are decent and moral, but not universally. There is always that segment of the population that is intent on doing harm. In todays prosperous and civilized USA, that segment is small although it varies by location. Under current circumstance, most Americans will never encounter a violent criminal.

But that's today, the future is another matter. There is no assurance the USA will be safe and secure in the future, particularly given the direction the USA and the world is headed. Look at Germany, in the past year its been overrun by refugees, and crime - including violent crime - has exploded. Look at Germany or Russia in 1910, both important nations on the world stage, yet 20 years later Russia was under the boot of a murderous tyrant and the world looked at it in fear and horror, and Germany was on the road to the Third Reich. A major reason I support gun rights is for future generations.

    ***

There is also the difference between the gun banner mentality and gun rights mentality. Nobody wants to be around dangerous people, particularly dangerous people who have guns.

The gun rights supporter believes everyone has a natural right to be armed, therefore he must believe people are naturally decent and moral, and these decent people are fully capable of properly taking care of themselves if they do encounter a violent person.

The gun banner believes people are not naturally decent and moral, and are not intelligent enough to take care of themselves, and therefore should not be allowed to have guns. But the gun banner himself believes he is better than the rest and should not be restricted from owning a gun, particularly since he believes people around him are in general dangerous and a threat to his safety.

I agree many are distracted from the real issues and problems that are at hand. The corruption in this world is way out of hand, from the government all the way down.Power and greed is a real issue and it just gets ignored because they won't give up their power or greed to help make a better world. Why do you think they cut out funding for the things that could do good.Instead they invent this false blame that guns are the root to all evil in the world, when everybody should already know it is money. That is why they put the poor at the bottom of priority, that would cost them money not make them money. That is why most laws that are made is to create revenue,it is not to make things better or safer. They would rather try and remove our rights and privileges to make us weaker and easier to control, that makes them richer and more powerful. If you don't believe that then you are the ones that are helping to corrupt and make them richer and more powerful. You know what they have always said if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem.I am part of the solution, what are you?

Paranoiac rubbish. Your characterisation of people who seek a reasonable solution to a problem that's killing ten 911's-worth of Americans every year as "gun banners" shows your simplistic love of unreason and death.

Explain how background checks being mandated for private sales will not be subverted by straw purchasers, as they already are for sales by federally licensed firearm dealers.

The anti's seem to like to make it a simple solution to fix such a big problem, just get rid of legal guns the problem goes away. They fail to see the real problem, and that is criminals and corruption and the big money that is and with money comes power. It has nothing to do with being paranoid it is called being realistic, who do you think is backing the gang trouble we have in this country and give them the power they have.If not the corruption of our law enforcement all the way up to our own government.

Except that is patently false. We would have no problem with a solution that actually worked. Banning assault rifles which kill virtually no one every year (less than 50). Is pointless. Background checks at gun shows where less than 2 percent of guns used in crime come from is pointless. If liberals wanted actually stop murders we would be arresting gang members whole sale in urban inner city neighborhoods. You know those 20-30 mega cities where 60 percent of our total murders occur. But that would destroy the liberal fantasy. We both know that the real goal of liberals is to totally disarm the US. Anything else is just a lie.
