The Trump admin is imploding before our very eyes; in 12 days Biden/Harris will be inaugurated

Today is Friday, January 8th 2021.

Well, one thing is for sure: every day in a Trump administration feels like about a year's time, the news cycle is so heavy with 'heavy' stuff. It's just one ****-show after the next.

On Thursday, January 7th, 2021, calls came from both Democrats and Republicans (more former Republicans than current ones, to be exact) for President Trump to step-down immediately because of his verifiably direct role in priming the pump and sending an armed, insurrectionist mob to the Capitol Building, the grounds upon which they trespassed and then illegally broke into the Capitol building, threatened police (and killed 2 police officers, at current count), broke into private offices, ransacked said offices, stole office material including, unfortunately for them, secret material, defaced Statuary Hall, defaced the chamber of the House, defaced the Chamber of the Senate and most of them simply marched out of the Congress building without being immediately arrested. Even the WSJ editorial board, and I mean, ALL of the editorial board, is saying that Trump must go, post-haste. 2 pipe-bombs were also discovered, one in front of the RNC, the other in front of the DNC.

When this all happened on January 6th, 2021, Trump, whose fat little tweety fingers usually cannot get enough, was suddenly not very interested in tweeting that his rabid supporters should stop breaking the law. But he did have enough time to tweet that Mike Pence had let him down. We now know from credible reports from numerous sources (who are likely going to have to testify before a judge pretty soon) that the President was literally excited, practically getting-off on watching the live scenes of mayhem, violence and destruction on TV. He sent out a half-hearted, half-assed video on January 6th. It didn't help.

On January 7th, 2021, 14 high/mid-level Trump administration officials resigned in the wake of his attempted sedition:

-Betsy DeVos, Sec'y of Education
-Mike Mulvaney, former WH Chief of Staff and currently, envoy to Ireland
-Stephanie Grisham, press Sec'y to the FLOTUS
-Matthew Pottinger, Deputy Nat'l Security Advisor
-Ryan Tully, NSC, director for European and Russian Affairs
-Sarah Matthews, Deputy Press Sec'y
-Tyler Godspeed, Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors
-Rickie Niceta, White House Social Sec'y
-John Costella, Deputy Asst. Sec'y for Intelligence and Security
-Elinore McKance-Katz, Asst. Sec'y for mental health and substance abuse
-Hunter Kurtz, Asst. Sec'y of HUD
-Eric Dreiband, Asst. AG (Civil Rights Division)
-Gabriel Norona, Advisor to the Iran Action Group (he was actually fired by Trump for writing a negative tweet)

I am quite sure that more resignations are going to follow today.

As it was apparent that nothing that he was doing was working to stem the tide, Trump then made a somewhat longer video on January 7th, 2021, where kind of maybe conceded the election but could not bring himself to say Joe Biden's name. Then, he threw his MAGA supporters under the bus, stating that they do not represent America and that their crimes were heinious. So, if you are a MAGA-person and paid out of your own pocket to get to Washington to bang up stuff and scream Freedom!!! and all those cool things, just know that he is done with you now, he was never really into you, you have served your purpose and you just need to get over it, mkay....

Speaking as an American who is still in shock at what he saw, I was not suprised to hear so many high level pols talking about 3 possibilities:

1.) Trump simply resigns and this national nightmare is over with 12 days earlier than planned. This would be the easiest and cleanest way to do this, but then, Trump wouldn't get to be the attention-whore that he is the next 12 days, so I give this 0% chance of happening.

2.) Vice-President Mike Pence, with the support of 1/2 of the cabinet -or- with the support of the Speaker of the HOR, the majority leader of the Senate and a bi-partisan congressional commission, can at least temporarily remove Trump from office on the grounds that Trump is mentally unfit to serve, in which case Mike Pence would be acting President for the next 12 days. Trump can challenge this and within 4 days, Pence and either the one team or the other must respond. Should they give the same response, then it's over, because they than have a 30-day window to demand psych evaluations and the like, so they could simply run-out the clock.. But there are some unforseen problems of practicality about this:

-there are a number of "acting" Secretarys in Trump's cabinet, which means they were never confirmed by Congress and when the 25th amendment was written, passed and ratified, no one was talking about acting Cabinet Secretaries, because they did not exist, so this is a grey area. Trump could claim that Mike Pence did not really get the support of 1/2 of his cabinet, since most of it is an acting cabinet, anyway.

-There is not enough time to put together a bipartisan comission to study and report on Trump's mental health.

-There is no real sign that Mike Pence has even the slightest inclination to invoke the 25th amendment. He has been Trump's most staunch cheerleader the entire time and in spite of Trump stabbing Mike (and his family, which was also in the Capitol Building when the MAGA mob overran the place) in the back on January 6th, 2021, Pence is likely to continue to quietly purr and lick Trump's boots or... whatever.

3.) The House of Representatives impeaches Trump again and sends the impeachment to the Senate, where only G-d knows what may happen. Theoretically, the House could launch a Blitz-impeachment process, in which case ridiculously comical fringe figures like Gym ("knew that the USO doc diddled young jocks penises during examinations and did nothing about it") Jordan would to make sure to wear extra tight muscle shirts in the committee hearings because that is totally straight you know that the color pink is also very straight you know and he, Gym Jordan, would scream just wee bit louder, but in reality, impeachment would do little. What it perhaps could do, would be to scare Trump so much that he would not even consider pulling something crazy at the last minute, like, say, nuking Iran in the middle of the night just because he's in a bad mood or declaring that Joe Biden is the enemy of the people and therefore, in order to save us all, he just must declare martial law and geewhiz, while he's still here, he may as well just stay here another four years.

Sound far-fetched? Yepp, it sure as hell does. Just about as far-fetched as letting 30,000 screaming MAGA fans loose from the line to go invade the Capitol Building, kill cops and destroy stuff. I mean, that's some major banana-Republic ****, right there.

So, my super spidey-senses are telling me that the next days are going to be very tense. Our national healing is going to be very, very difficult.

On the flip-side, on January 7th, 2021, incoming President Joe Biden announced his nominees for key positions in the Justice Department, the most key pick of all being Judge Merrick Garland for US-AG. There is not only a lot of justice in this pick (Garland is a moderate with a stellar reputation) but also, Karma is just such a bitch because it just so happens that Garland was Obama's SCOTUS nominee in 2016 and thanks to Graveyard-Mitch McConnell, the Garland nomination never saw the light of day. For this grave injustice, Democrats all over are very pleased about this pick and now that Mitch McConnell will be in the Senate Minority, that sound you will be hearing soon will be the gnashing of teeth at a posh house in Kentucky. But Biden's other picks are high quality people with impeccable resumes and more importantly, they have all served in one way or another before, which means that they bring much necessary experience to the job.

In conclusion, I just want to say that no matter whether you are Conservative, Moderate or Liberal, Republican, Independent or Democrat, Male or Female, Black or White or Brown or Red or Yellow, Straight, Bi or Gay, Earthling or Centaurian, we should all be able to agree that armed insurrection is against the law. The MAGA movement did itself inestimable damage on January 6th, 2021. As of this point in history onward, no one other than MAGAs will trust MAGAs ever again. A huge number of people could have died on Tuesday. Thank G-d that did not happen. Guaranteed, justice WILL be served and those who broke the law will be hunted down and brought to justice for their crimes, including those who instigated this whole thing.

So, 12 days.....

Pres. Trump has tweeted that he is not going to attend Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20th, 2021. This is an unsurprising development and likely a number of people are breathing easier now as a result of this news. Usually, we want the outgoing President to attend the peaceful transfer of power, but in this case, many are thinking that it is far better if Trump is nowhere near Washington on Inauguration Day 2021.

Also, reports are coming through that Trump made the 3 minute video yesterday only because he was told point blank, were he were to neither condemn the violence nor concede the race, then he would be immediately removed from power. Logic dictates that if this is correct reporting (and I am pretty sure that it is spot-on), then the only person who would be able to make this kind of threat to Donald Trump would be: Mike Pence. It appears that their bromance is now over.



More reports are coming through that Nancy Pelosi (D, Speaker of the US House of Representatives) is more than serious about impeaching Donald Trump a second time. In fact, aides are reporting that she appears to be more pissed off than any person has ever seen her before and proceedings may even start next Tuesday. It is being reported at this very moment that Pelosi called the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff this morning in order to convince him to deny Trump access to the nuclear codes for the rest of Trump's term.

To my sweet steel magnolia Nancy: I once dated an italian woman (bella donna, bella donna!!!), I can attest that they are very fiery types!!! Also, as written in this morning's OP, the combination of both threats to Donald Trump may be the only things preventing him from doing something truly stupid and very destructive before Inauguration Day 2021 because honestly, after the armed, deadly insurrection that he incited on Wednesday, literally no sane person will ever trust the man again.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski is the first Republican Senator to openly and forcefully call for Trump to resign now.

The Democrats in the House of Representatives have already drafted one article of impeachment, with the title:

"Incitement to Insurrection".

It will be introduced on Monday morning, floor debate and Full House vote is expected on Wednesday.

 

Manu Raju, CNN reporter, who was evacuated out of the Capitol Building with the Senators, is reporting in very specific detail that at 07:30 PM on January 6th, 2021, after the MAGA insurrection mob had occupied the Capitol Building and murdered 2 cops, after the insurrection had been quelled and the Congress had reconvened, Trump was still so concerned with somehow dragging out the proceedings that he called Freshman Senator Tommy Tuberville and told him point blank to object to the electors from as many states as he could (outside of the four target states of AZ, GA, PA and WI). When Tuberville apparently didn't respond, then Rudy Guiliani called, thinking he had reached Tuberville's telephone, to repeat Trump's message (apparently, with some creative deleted expletives), but he ****ed-up and dialed Mike Lee's telephone instead. So, Mike Lee got the voice mail and was totally disgusted. Mind you, this happened AFTER the Senators were evacuated from the Capitol Building, the insurrection was quelled and then the two houses of Congress met again.

In other words, Trump didn't give a **** about anything or anyone, all he cared about was still somehow stopping the certification. He never once asked if Vice-President Pence was ok.

Twitter has taken the very unusual step of informing the general public via its blog that it has closed a number of accounts beyond the ones I've listed in the last days (Donald Trump, Lin Wood, Sidney Powell, Michael Flynn) due to lots of chatter among the MAGA folk about attacking Washington DC again, this time with January 17th as the target date. Also, there is a lot of chatter about MAGAs storming some state houses. Since Twitter noticed that upon banning some accounts, the chatter has moved elsewhere, Apple has taken the extremely unusual step of informing the Conservative site PARLER that it must change ist moderation rules concerning threats, otherwide apple will remove Parler from its app store. Since PARLER may get canned, there is suddenly a lot of movement to an extreme ultra right of right app called GAB.

So, it sure looks as if "big tech" is doing its best to keep another catastrophe from happening.

Just spitballing here, but with the HORs decision to push forward with impeachment, this all is probably going to get worse before it gets better.

WELL THIS IS KIND OF HARD ON THE INSURRECTION NARRATIVE: Investigators struggle to build murder case in death of US Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick.

And yet, that Fake News Claim was plastered everywhere and repeated endlessly.

“Medical examiners did not find signs that the officer sustained any blunt force trauma, so investigators believe that early reports that he was fatally struck by a fire extinguisher are not true.” And yet that’s what we’ve heard nonstop for almost a month. Will there be any media apologies? Of course not.

 

I don't recall the source where I saw it but I read a report that stated his family denied the fire extinguisher trauma story. It's terrible that he died and if there IS evidence that someone there is proven to have caused it then they need to be prosecuted but if there is no evidence of that, dammit, these people need to stop ramping up anger and hate.
