Ran across an interesting twitter discussion the other day: https://twitter.com/SamHooper/status/1164779407472414721 It's an interesting discussion. My thoughts are: No way. The US and the UK are too dissimilar to form a cohesive union. Although some of of comments in the thread seem bizarre (Trump wants to destroy the NHS) other complaints about guns are valid. The UK likes being disarmed and some peoples can only handle just a little bit of freedom. One thing I didn't see mentioned would be the impact of the First Amendment on current hate speech. Brits actually have people in jail for that, and by US standards, they're political prisoners. Post Brexit I wouldn't mind a closer trade agreement with the UK as I think that would be beneficial for both countries, but we should be looking at more autonomy at lower levels, not less. The US already has enough States.
My first thoughts are wait five years before giving the idea of UK statehood consideration. My second thoughts are that the Brits are long ways from the Redcoats and order, and what portion of UK citizens would consider it a hostile takeover.
Brits like their independence. That’s why they have Brexit. I think they deserve a fair free trade agreement, but no one should even consider merging it with the United States.
The UK is a perfect fit for our emerging (DNC) socialist 'top down' emerging governmental structure here in the states... Elections have consequences! Yehh, I'm so down with surrendering every sharp object I own - right after relinquishing my "assault rifle" collection. Where do I get in line to do this? As a now "reformed" - former sassy smart ass, I now believe that (arbitrarily select) unpopular speech should be outlawed & prosecuted - the 1st A is soooo overrated, lol... Come to think of it The DNC & the UK are a near perfect match. Perhaps we could get Mayor Sadiq Khan to take over as king with an arranged marriage to Harris / Warren as queen. P.S. With a merge of the UK & US independents like Michael Savage would no longer be 'Banned in Brittan' for their "hate speech"...
