Forgot to add. BTW, only 1/3rd of the water from the Niagara River that could go over the crest of Niagara Falls, actually does. 2/3rd's of the water flow is diverted into the power dam upriver several miles (it is on the video), below the Honeymoon Bridge, dropping onto the huge electronic turbines and generating electrical power for the entire regions of Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and most of the Western New York area. The water flow if further decreased after dark, when the slow down of the water mass going over the falls won't be noticed by the tourists. Niagara is Seneca Indian language for Thundering Water, which is exactly what the falls are. Located 16-miles north of Buffalo, N.Y. The American side is a bit carnival atmosphere, while the Canadian side is more sedate and beautiful. Both are worth the visits, and if you have the inclination to visit the area in the winter (risky due to the mega snowstorms the area occasionally gets), the ice bridge flow out from the crest is amazing. They use time lapse photography to capture the exact moment when the huge, lengthy ice bride collapses into the river below as the spring thaws arrive.

Summer and fall are the best times to visit Western New York and the falls, weather is great there those season's along with the fall foliage. The actually stopped the entire water flow to the falls one time in the past, diverting all the water through the power dam, in an effort to remove the rocks that fell and were climbing up the American side of the falls. Almost 50 fire trucks took place, spraying water on the face of the falls to prevent the entire collapse, as air had never hit those rocks in, who knows, millions of years. They decided the crest was too weak and crumbly, it is limestone, to risk removing the rocks, so they left them there, and are allowing nature to take its course. I have four photographs from the day they reduced the flow to a trickle of water. Scientists, last time I heard, estimate the falls will move backward the 16-miles to Buffalo and the Niagara River will meet Lake Erie, sometime around the year 5050. Have a ways to go before that happens. Great place, born and raised just 20-miles from Niagara Falls......thought the group would enjoy the look, in case you haven't had the chance to visit. Driving tours of New York State are fabulous even if you don't include New York City in your itinerary.............

Correction. Because the drop of the water over the falls digs up deep pools below, it undermines the rock face of the falls, which later drops into the river, because the water churns underneath like a wave. It won't disappear in 5050 (which I heard once), but will join Lake Erie sometime around the year 22,800 according to scientists. My mistake. Don't think we will be here to see it, LOL............
