Knowing the difference between real American grassroots movements and those promoted and financed by elite manipulation is very important.

The agenda following 9/11 clearly was to diminish The American economy. It led up to 2008 and the bank/mortgage failure which BO enabled with deregulation, while GATT removed manufacturing jobs.

Meanwhile big manipulating money was put into guiding the malcontents into certain ways of thinking that made them and others more easily or more COMPLETLY manipulated.

OWS and BLM are the product of soros $.

Are you trying to say that the Declaration of Independence does not define a right to alter or abolish government destructive to unalienable rights?

Hmmm, the most prime intents of the constitution are now labeled "drivel ".

Are we all not "fixated" upon our unalienable rights, that or too uneducated to know what they are?

The issue isn't agreement. It is whether the nation is working together.

Trump ran a historically divisive campaign - seriously and consistently denigrating significant sections of the American population for no reason beyond race, ethnicity, disability, religion and gender, for example.

He defined himself in those terms - as one who does not see Americans as equals.

I am saying that he can't just wish that away with a couple standard platitudes.

I do not disagree with much of what you said, being white I think we have all seen this.... not all blacks are this way, but some are and some whites support it

that said, I also do not support racism against blacks either... both are wrong... we need to stop with the racism on both sides

but I think your right, Trump got many votes because of this backlash

I agree that rust belt manufacturing workers have been on the bottom end of our economic recovery, and that they didn't get enough campaign attention from Clinton.

But, the Trump approach of trade protection is not anywhere near adequate, primarily because such protections run both ways, and thus adequate tariffs would reduce exports as well as imports - giving little in the way of rust belt relief.

US manufacturers are looking for employees with more training and education. It's been hard for workers to keep up with our rapidly changing manufacturing segment without opportunities for training and education.

And, Clinton's approach included infrastructure jobs these workers are qualified to fill.

Um ... Most Blacks voted for Obama { 93 % or more } and where did it get them
Poverty in the Black Community has hit almost 20%.
Unemployment among young black males is 50 % or higher in big cities.
More black babies are aborted than Born.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell was a Black Abortionist operating an abortion clinic in
Philly considered a " house of horrors ".Convicted to Life in prison without
parole. He waived his right to appeal to spare the death penalty.
The Democrats were very loathe to take him to task.It was certain Republicans
that exposed him as a Murdering Late term Abortionist who ran a filthy abortion
clinic where baby parts like hands and feet were seen in Mason jars.
Babies disposed of by flushing down the toilet or put in a trash receptacle.
The Democrats weren't about to send him to trial. They were trying to protect him.

the import tax will be passed on to Americans, meaning that American made will cost as much as China made, meaning quality will once again rule supreme

exports wont be taxed... at least not by us, the other country could tax them and pass that cost on to their citizens too though

Rights that come from our Creator and only a Creator.
The Right to Life,Liberty and Happiness.Which has nothing to do with
one's politics or Race or gender or where they live.
One right not mentioned and is probably key to Trump's win is :
" The right to be let alone is the underlying principle of the Constitution's
    Bill of Right's " -- Erwin Griswold { Dean,Harvard Law School }

The "white sleeping giant" seems to have been Reince Priebus, according to the kudos Trump gave him.

Still trying to impose race-splitting views on average people that only want to be treated equally and impartially. Despicable.

Frankly, it would be difficult to find a more condescending and bitter distillation of projective liberal stereotypes of the average American than this smear piece of yours...and to your social class's eternal infamy, it has crippled and grossly distorted the positive progress of the US for years. How a supposedly intelligent class can smugly sit atop a system that murders abroad to enrich them is beyond me. For shame.

Your crowd couldn't and wouldn't even come up with a decent way to prevent the uncontrolled spread of HIV through the less affluent in our population, using "personal privacy" as your excuse.

Icon15 The Victory of Donald Trump and the New Political Correctness
Well, the collective unenlightenment, dull-wittedness, and white-trashiness of the red states is now about to be destructively incarnate in the presidency of Donald J. Trump. Those members of the electorate who voted for him have done something truly horrendous, and it will indeed have evil consequences. I recently wrote an article in which I characterized the takeover of the Republican Party by Tea Partiers and alt-rightists as the inmates gaining control of the asylum, well, now the inmates have actually seized control of the government to boot, and there will certainly be a price to pay.

But of course rather than being too self-critical as a society we retreat, as per usual, into false consciousness in various ways. For instance, a new political correctness is already taking shape, one which involves not being harshly critical of or “condescending” toward the type of unconscientized workfolk and right-wing rubes who cast their ballot for Mr. Trump in droves. According to the narrative that the news media immediately began to construct blue-collar voters who selected Mr. Trump to be their next president have simply been experiencing economic immiseration and disaffectedness, and thanks to his focus on addressing their plight and playing the part of their spokesperson, voting for Mr. Trump became an outlet for their pain and disgruntlement. He was able to sell himself to them as their champion against an establishment that had disregardfully and “condescendingly” forsaken them, and as a validator of their grievances and attitudes, and for politicians the lesson to be learned is that it very much behooves them to adopt the new political correctness of respecting the earthy and angry viewpoint of Joe Sixpack.

Well, although it’s certainly true that the working class of our society has been immiserated and made to feel disregarded by the establishment, and although Mr. Trump certainly exploited this, there’s a bit more to it than that. For decades now the conservative movement has been cultivating pro-capitalism, anti-leftism, and a focus on certain scapegoats and alien threats such as hispanic immigrants and Muslims. The blue-collar masses who voted for Mr. Trump aren’t merely feeling economic pain and anger about being condescended to by conventional politicians, thanks to the efforts of the conservative movement they’re guilty of giving the capitalist ruling class a free pass and superficially focusing on trade deals associated in their minds with new world order liberals such as the Clintons; of misperceiving progressives to be disdainful of them when in fact progressives are merely disapproving of their bigotry and actually have their best interests at heart; of misidentifying immigrants as the cause of their economic hardships when of course the real culprits are the capitalist system itself, and the capitalist ruling class; and of misblaming Muslims for terrorism which in fact has been provoked by the economic and cultural imperialism, the hegemonic behavior, and military aggressions we’ve visited upon Muslim peoples, and which is also largely just a pretext for more hegemonic behavior and military aggression. Mr. Trump merely pandered, quite effectively, to all of this wrongheadedness.

In short, Trump voters fell prey to his liberal establishment-bashing, immigrant-scapegoating, and Muslim-demonizing schtick because their mentality has been conditioned by the right to think in terms of a nefarious “liberal establishment” rather than direct critical attention at the capitalist-plutocratic establishment; and to be xenophobic and racist, to hold alien others responsible for our economic troubles and the dangerousness of the world, rather than recognize the more fundamental causal role played by our own economic elites and by an economico-political system that allows them to pursue their self-interest and class interests at the expense of the 99%. That is, anti-progressivism, anti-immigrantism, race prejudice, and anti-Muslim bigotry contaminates the disgruntlement of the red-state Everyman but the new political correctness would have us refrain from bluntly stating this fact and superficially view him as righteously resentful. Well, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing righteous about failing to realize that the real enemy of the workingperson is the capitalist power elite and its ideological protectors, aka conservatives, not the “liberal elite”, not powerless immigrants, and not Middle Easterners.

No, the new political correctness is an utter load of rubbish, Trump and his supporters are indeed benighted and dangerous, and this truth needs to be spoken in a quite explicit fashion, not denied or spoken in a toned-down fashion. Beware and reject the new political correctness, the latest manifestation of false consciousness, for only the truth will set us free, free from the nightmare that has only just begun, free from the specter of alt-right fascism, free from the economico-political system that has now degenerated to the point that the unfit, demagogic, and sociopathic likes of a Donald Trump can ascend to the presidency and the alt-right can threaten the ideal of democracy. Yes, political correctness oppresses, truth liberates. And the now politically-incorrect truth is that Mr. Trump is evil and those who voted for him made a stupid choice, behind which, in many cases, is a stupid conservative mentality. Although it might seem that stating this controversial bit of truth so candidly will only further polarize our society ultimately only the truth, stated and acknowledged without equivocation, will heal the divisions and hatreds generated by the right.

Other nations aren't going to pay tariffs to America while not charging their own tariffs on our products we sell internationally. And, many US corporations export more product than they sell in the US.

Trade barriers do not select for quality and they raise prices American consumers will pay for equivalent products.

We do import cheap stuff, because when "cheap" is what is important to us, other nations can beat manufacturing that we haven't automated yet.

However remember that many of our high tech and other products where we absolutely do care about quality are also imported.

The reason for cheap products is that we want cheap products. Our free market capitalism gives us what we want - it really can't do otherwise. Blaming others for supplying what we demand is ridiculous.
