Joe Biden Faces Rebellion From Governors Over National Guard Move (msn.com) So the Biden admin wants to move some of the Air National Guard into the Space Force. OK... why? Every State Governor is opposed to this. Except Florida and Texas. Why Florida and Texas? Every argument I can think of for opposing this (and I really don't understand much about it) seems something that would put Florida and Texas to the top of the 'opposed' list. Does anyone know more about this?
I don't really know anything about the issue, but I noticed you mentioned two states that are ok with it, Florida and Texas, so immediately what came to mind was that since there are actual launch facilities and co-located NASA facilities. The former Patrick AFB is now a Space Force base, and hosts launches.
I think you are looking at the politicians who want to make a piece of pork pie (get military spending sent to their states). And transferring troops through different branches of the military threatens these politicians who can no longer say they have x number of troops, and y number of bases, so send huge amounts of money to their states. These are also the politicians who swim in corruption and are taking money from the military budget to maintain empty fields and dilapidated, abandoned old buildings that haven't been used since the 1950s and no one wants them including the military.
The one commonality between those two states is, in fact, space flight. I would think they would want more personnel. I wonder if their refusal is out of spite over the border? Neither of those state's governors are very fond of Biden.
I would agree, but it appears you misunderstood... Texas and Florida are the only two states that ARE NOT OPPOSING the Biden admin on this particular initiative. That is part of why I said its weird. I would've expected those two states to oppose it, if for no other reason than simply to oppose the Biden admin, obstructionism and all that. ...but they are the only two states that are not opposing it.
Well Florida and Texas are kind of the center of the rocket launching business so I am guessing they see it as benefiting them. Really all I can find is that between 50-80% of the guard members who would be affected say they will leave if forced to transfer from the air national guard to the space force. Doesn't say why they would oppose it. Guess maybe their concern is that they would be forced to travel greater distances to serve. IDK.
Understood. It makes me wonder why Colorado opposes the initiative. This is where Space Base Delta 1 us located. https://www.petersonschriever.spaceforce.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Article/326192/space-base-delta-1/ "Space Base Delta 1 consists of over 4,300 military and civilian members who support nearly 18,400 personnel." I live near the base of Cheyenne Mountain.
