If you've never heard of him, take a few minutes to watch the video of one of his presentations. Here's a little bio from his website. The Pentagon's New Map is very interesting!

Thomas P.M. Barnett has worked in US national security circles since the end of the Cold War, starting first with the Department of Navy's premier think tank, the Center for Naval Analyses. From there he moved to serve as a senior researcher and professor at the Naval War College in Newport RI, where he became a top assistant to Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowksi - the father of "network-centric warfare." After 9/11, Barnett served in Cebrowski's Office of Force Transformation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as the Assistant for Strategic Futures. He developed a famous PowerPoint brief on the subject of globalization and international security, which later morphed into a New York Times-bestseling book, The Pentagon's New Map: War and Peace in the Twenty-First Century (2004).

I guess it was too difficult to figure out his political affiliation, and no one wants to touch this. You're missing very fascinating stuff here!

Ok, I'll provide a brief summary of the Pentagon's New Map in hopes of sparking some discussion. Basically, Barnett created a map to show where on the globe people are least connected to the rest of the world. He shows how those areas are also where you find the most hunger, war, poverty, etc. He says the most extreme elements of global society are located in that region, and are being deliberately pushed into it by the world powers. It really is interesting.
