As Edmund Burke stands tall as a father of modern conservatism and of true liberalism, I frequently look up to him as a light to lead our nation into a new golden age of peace and prosperity, with freedom for its people and from the despotism of institutional corruption. Now more than ever we all need to look up to him. The question now is which candidate would be best-suited to carry on the legacy of this genuine FF?
Quick question: what do you mean by "FF," exactly? At first I thought it meant Founding Father, but then I remembered Burke was not a Founding Father of our country.
He was a Freedom Fighter to me. I would have preferred that he also be a Founding Father and I am sure that such a great man would have been welcomed with open arms, but Founding Fathers are not the only variety of Freedom Fighters.
I prefer Thomas Paine, and I know I'm in good company because Ronald Reagan quoted him! Edmund Burke was very respectable though, and definitely contributed a lot to America's conservative traditions and our biblical principles!
An 'HP', MrPutin? Surely Burke would have been more of a Dell guy. Those who genuinely prefer HP tend to be horrible people.
Burke was a genuine conservative, but never a "liberal" in the classic or the American definition. But he wasn't a reactionary either. I suspect he would have felt disdain for both the GOP and the Democratic Party.
The Founding Fathers would have horsewhipped all of us in the street for the violence we've done their creation, and been right to do so. Burke is erudite and obviously a man of great good will but he is not comfortable in the modern world and that has set an unfortunate tone for conservatism from his day to ours.
