We have another 'Karen'. Who's right and wrong here? In spite of what he already had on it might have been wise for the employer to give him a uniform or at least a badge identifying him:

    I watched the video.

There is clearly enough evidence to charge the son with simple assault.

At worst, a Fine and Probation.
    Big whoop.

There is no excuse for assaulting anyone, but why didn't he just say "I work here"?

This would have been a wonderful case for stand your ground/self-defense if the guy had whipped out a gun and shot his attacker dead. I wonder what the comments would be then? Would any of the Repub Congress Critters offer the worker a job or would they be yelling for his head?

He didn't work there. He was doing a temporary assignment. It is extremely risky to be walking around looking at people's cars given the high rate of catalytic converter and car thefts. Even if the person is wearing a company uniform it would not necessarily reduce the risk of being attacked or even killed. The job should pay at least $50 an hour.

I guess the question is should he have to? I haven't walked a mile in this person's shoes so it is hard to judge but if someone asked me I would probably politely tell them. The big difference is probably for everyone 1 person that would question me there could be 10 people of more that would ask him. If that is the case I could see why it is frustrating.

I have often wondered the same thing. Remember that St. Lois couple that stood outside with guns and pointed them at protestors as they marched by. If one of them pulled out their own gun could he have shot and killed them because they felt threatened because they pointed a gun at them. I certainly would feel threatened if someone pointed a gun at me.

That’s because the “protestors” were essentially in their front yard. They were on private property. Your argument is essentially this….

    - A protestor can force their way on to private property.
    - Property owner displays firearm and says get the hell out.
    - Protestor can then shoot and kill the property owner because they were “scared”.

    Doesn’t even make any sense.

That is a fair point and to be honest I am not sure where the line is drawn. Should you be allow to point a gun at anyone coming onto your property? Should you be allow to point a gun at those on public property telling them not to come on your property. I can see the argument that if you came onto the property uninvited it would be a weak argument to pull out a gun and shoot back but what if you were on the sidewalk and marching by and never had any intention of coming onto the property? If she pointed a gun at you then could you shoot back? I think I would draw the line of whether I was on private or public property but I do not know if the laws would agree with me. I think if I had the right to be there and someone points a gun at you, you can shoot back because they could easily pull the trigger. If they simply held a gun you may be a weaker ground but the moment someone points it at you it is self defense.

He was referred to as a "worker". I don't understand why he just didn't tell them what he was doing.

it was ok for them to be suspicious, call the cops if refused to identify himself, or to even say he worked there, but assault is where it went wrong

I have to show a badge where I work, most do

that is what I would do, seems simple

though if I was the other side, I would have not done what the son did too

both sides were wrong, but the son was more wrong

the real answer is call 911, do not confront someone you think might be committing a crime, what if he was a criminal, what good were they gonna do, just scare him into running, and he would get away, maybe get assaulted themselves if he had been a real criminal?

the man should have been given a vehicle with flashing yellow lights when he stopped. that had the name of the business on it and a uniform

too many catalytic converters stolen nowadays

that said, does not excuse the sons actions

He should have been given the tools for the job, and an obvious way to identify what he's doing. That job isn't worth $10 an hour, $50 is crazy.

you're gonna deal with angry people putting boots on their car, I say it's worth more than $10, but less than $50 an hour

but yes, he was lacking the tools he needed for his own saftey
