He/she will follow the drag marks to the tree. It tends to PO the males, the females will probably leave it alone and move off. As you're probably aware they are solitary and pretty territorial.

I carried it away in the bucket of my tractor but the lion may smell it if the winds right or might even have watched me take it. This isn't uncommon where I live and coming on these fresh kills is a bit unnerving. I found a bear kill once and cautiously put a game cam on it and got some fantastic pics of a huge bear feeding on it. Hair on back of my neck was definitely standing on end when I put the cam up! LOL

I'm not quite in black bear country, and you won't get sightings till you go further west and even then, they will be rare. I'm in cattle/ sheep/goat country so cat behavior is not like in places like California where they are coddled. The deer population and feral pig population is huge, so food is just not a problem. Cats will come into where I am, but not often. Thirty miles west then the country is much more amenable to supporting a much larger population. As long as they don't go after pets or livestock and stay nocturnal, they're good.

Lions and bears are thick where I live and once we actually witnessed a failed attack by a huge lion on one of our front yard deer. It was really something to see but now my wife won't let the dogs out after dark to do their business without being on a leash. Her job not mine. I say let them take their chances.

We have a surprising number of coyotes. They will eat kitty cats (pets) and small dogs at times, but much prefer their food if left outside. Donkey pairs take care of them on the pastures along with large dogs. They are however experts at getting into chicken coops. My dogs are huge Shepherds that are a significant mismatch for a coyote. I saw one cross my drive early in the AM and thought the coyote must be suicidal and or very lucky.

IMO it takes a sorry piece of work to kill any wild life they don't plan to eat. There are other ways to control these animals but blood thirsty weak men think killing an animal makes them look stronger. These cowards should be put on front lines in wars where the prey is more equal. Of course most have never seen combat and never will.

Silly man, do you think that anything from a trophy hunt goes to waste? The elephant is eaten down to the marrow. Nothing is not used. And this nonsense about weak men. Really? Tell that to the trackers and PH's. We're not equating it down to combat. I doubt you'd last a day on a jumbo hunt and you wouldn't be found when it gets in close. Don't denigrate something you know absolutely nothing about. Most trophy elephant hunting is done in thick forest and involves miles and miles of trekking through very rough country and that's every single day. You'll need at the very least a week unless you get very very lucky early on.

No wonder I enjoy seeing bullfighters get gored and stomped on a little. A tortured animal full of pins stuck into its nervous system so some cloaked clown can kill it , and the poor to eat a animal that has been tortured ,why not just kill it without torment?
Trophy hunting is evil and thats a fact. Dead animals on floors and walls is barbaric and stupid.
The more I see out of man-unkind the more I think we are fallen angels aka demons here to try to get back to good if we can not do evil while here.

And why would I want to? You ever ride a large donkey,I have and many a horse, but that is one on one so I'm sure you haven't. Also I'm a female old lady but I have done some very challenging things in my life like setting my own bones and socking them back into joint that made my husband scream too watching it. I screamed to but doc said I did a great job as he laughed looking at my black foot and xray on my black foot. Also put my muscles back into my stomach and pulled it together with bandage till I could get to doctor when incision split open from lifting two kids up too fast. Not many men or women have done that except in war zones maybe.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (The Borowitz Report)—Unimpressed by President Donald Trump’s sudden backtracking on his proposed elephant-trophy ban, elephants from Zimbabwe and Zambia released a scathing official statement on Saturday, ominously warning Trump, “We don’t forget.”

The blistering statement from the elephants reflected the pachyderms’ contempt not just for Trump but for his two sons, Eric and Donald, Jr., who are widely despised by the elephant community.

“The decision to lift the trophy ban reeks of political expediency as it worst,” the elephants’ statement read.

The elephants also sent a strongly worded legal letter to the Republican National Committee, demanding that the G.O.P. immediately cease and desist using the elephants’ likenesses in Republican fund-raising appeals and all other materials.

Trump on auto pilot took the advice of the US fish and game service. After public outcry he looked into it himself and halted the decision for further review. He now says he's very unlikely to let elephant heads into America again. Right or wrong he listened to the will of the voters and put to bed allegations by the left that he acts as a dictator.

Big-game trophy decision will be announced next week but will be very hard pressed to change my mind that this horror show in any way helps conservation of Elephants or any other animal.

Thanks for article. I know Trump had said before when ask about his wild life killer sons ," I don't hunt " . I'm almost sure that was his reply, but check it out.

I honestly don't know the details as to why fish and game has doubled down on their first decision so I don't know if I agree with it or not. What I do know is that for better or for worse Trump responded to public pressure. It would however be interesting to see an in depth analysis of fish and games recommendation on this and why they think hunting elephants promotes species survival but as of yet I can't find anything.
