We did that. Kim might have admired the success. He quit saying he was about to attack Guam.

China indeed does. But whom do you think makes China richer, the USA or North Korea. China says it is helping to try to clamp down on the dictator of N. Korea.

Gulf War, we had a U.N. mandate to free Kuwait from Saddam's aggression. Saddam's military was weaken severely by the eight-year Iran/Iraq War. We freed Kuwait and ended the war.

Afghanistan, a pitiful country with a pitifully weak military consisting mostly of small arms and no air force. 16 years later we are still fighting there.

Iraq again, this time Iraq's military was even weaker, weakened by sanctions, weakened by eight years of weapons inspectors. The army surrendered without a fight and Iraqi air force didn't fly. We fought for eight years then simply withdrew.

"The North Korean People’s Army Artillery Command is responsible for 12,000 pieces of tube artillery and 2,300 pieces of multiple launch rocket artillery over 107-millimeters. The majority of tube artillery are 122-, 130-, 152- and 170-millimeter units, and on the rocket side the majority are 240-millimeter units." She has the fourth largest army in the world.

“The North Korean Air Force (NKAF), a fleet of more than 1,300 aircraft that are primarily legacy Soviet models, is primarily responsible for defending North Korean air space,” reads a Pentagon report to the Congress on the state of North Korea’s military in 2015.

Seth, I think your idea stinks.

Do you honestly think that will have any effect on Kim? In the first hour of hostilities millions would die in the Seoul metro area.

Seth, I think your idea stinks.

I truly resent it when posters advocate that we must have the UN decide for us. Clinton had no help from the UN yet he unleashed a fury on the former Yugoslavia and spent months bombing them.

Clinton had no mandate to unleash his fury on Saddam past the Kuwait matter either.

Will Kim cave were Trump to do as Clinton did to Yugoslavia? Depends on what of our weapons we would bring to bear is my version.

The OP was critical of our Commander-in-Chief for not shooting down the North Korean missile.

Reading can be a great aid to understanding any situation. 8)

I have no idea what you are talking about. I have said nothing about going to war with North Korea.

If you had been following along you would know that I want Trump to order the test missiles be shot down.

Why do you want war with North Korea?

One can also gather a tremendous amount of information about a posters beliefs by reading his/her past disparaging and critical comments about the current administration.

Perhaps the Chinese secretly hope the U.S. destroys NK and its government.

If we had some evil little kingdom on our border threatening China with a nuclear attack, it would be in our interest to just deal with it and fix the problem.

We have no options, Sandy. Unless capitulation is an option, and I'm sure it isn't.

If NK attacks Seoul, then we wipe NK out. If Kim is crazy, he'll cause that outcome. If he wants to survive, and he's rational, as so many on this board think he is, then he won't.

    Yeah, right.

You and your "ifs." The U.S. can't make policy on "ifs" and wishes.

Your entire premise is to critisize everything Trump has tried. The only thing that hasn't been tried is war.

    What else would you recommend?

Ha! It was just an aside, thinking out loud is all.

I think the U.S. policy is crystal clear, regardless of what the Chinese are thinking.

"President Donald Trump has given military orders for U.S. forces to shoot down and destroy any missile launched from North Korea and moving toward the continental United States, Hawaii, and Guam."

    http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/trump-orders-military-shoot/2017/09/07/id/812307/

It can be construed that last missile test was a warning to Guam and it flew over an ally, Japan. That's twice. It splashed down 2300 miles from Pyongyang. Range to Guam -- 2100 miles.

"The only thing that hasn't been tried is war." You are wrong. Trump can follow up on his threat and shoot down the next missile and the one after that and so on.

Instead, all he does is talk and Kim is laughing at him.

Kim won't retaliate militarily because then the pedal hits the metal, and he and his regime becomes extinct. The whole idea for all this in Kim's mind is the perpetuation of his regime. He is not suicidal. He is not even crazy as the American media portrays him. He is quite methodical, and his small country has achieved a lot in the short amount of time of his reign. He has the lone superpower in the world on the ropes.

That has to change and talking isn't going to accomplish a damn thing.

A lot of reasons a missile isn't shot down, most of them best for us if not advertised to the public. It could miss and give NK propaganda. Firing over Japan could run the risk of debris possibly hitting populated areas.

Or they just may have been slow getting authorization to shoot at it and there wasn't an opportunity.

Better to know now than when the damn things are aimed at us. Better to do something.

A Marine instructor once told me some 30 years ago, "Lieutenant, do something. Even if it is wrong, do something."

I have never forgotten that. Trying something and failing is better than just standing there while others laugh at you; in this case, Kim.

Your Marine instructor failed you. Sometimes the better action is to do nothing when there is not tangible benefit to action.

Or Bush, or Clinton. But there is a difference, a huge difference.

There have been fifteen missile tests this year. That is more than all last year.

North Korea has fired her missiles over the air space of a valuable ally, Japan, twice.

North Korea now has an ICBM capable of reaching the U.S.

North Korea tested a hydrogen bomb, far more powerful than the atomic bombs previously tested.

North Korea has miniaturized a nuclear device to fit on top of an ICBM.

All of these developments have taken place on Trump's watch.

They are called "tests" for a reason. Kim doesn't fire these things off because he likes fireworks. They are testing the range and accuracy of the weapons. If scientists can't get the data they need because we are stopping their tests, then it is hoped Kim will quit firing the damn things. We get one up on him for a change.

I would call that a tangible benefit, wouldn't you?
