    https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/30/trump-rejects-eu-offer-to-eliminate-auto-tariffs.html

    • President Donald Trump rejected an offer from the European Union to eliminate tariffs on cars as "not good enough."
    • Earlier in the day, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said that the EU would be willing to eliminate auto tariffs if the U.S. did the same
As I said before, time and time again trump rejects all offers to reduce tarrifs between EU and US. Trump isnt intrested into reducing tarrifs he's only intrested in absuing this topic to get votes.

Trump want's it to be more even, he isn't going to settle or he wouldn't have started this in the first place.

But watch, they will all fall in line.

All economists are saying that Europe will suffer far more than us, we can outlast them.

Perhaps you should try supporting your president as he fights for you.

EU proposes to reduce the tarrifs to zero. What more is their to reduce ?

You do realise that trumps main goal is to get re-elected (just like any other politician?)

Because it makes no sense that the US and EU would have to "suffer" its not a contest BOTH would "loose" and it would be others that pick up the pieces and "win". A trade war always only has loosers it never has winners.

Western modern world is based on negotiations and deals, its prosperiy comes from free trade.

The EU (as far as I can see) has done the same deal with japan, getting rid of almost all tarrifs between them. I doubt he's get anything more out of them, I mean what do you think they are going to pay to have acces to US products?

Only on auto's, if Trump hangs on they will give him more.

Of course, but to do that he has to have some accomplishments. So far the trade war is going very well for him while other things are not. Yes he has the economy but he needs more.

What you don't understand is that we are already in a trade war, and we are on the losing side, Trump is trying to make it more even.

All these trade deals that have been done over decades have put America at a disadvantage.

In fact, a trade war is simply something that happens every time a trade deal is begun.

All Trump is actually doing is renegotiating our deals so America is on a more level playing field, why are you against that?

If we go to Sweden to sell a lead pipe and they charge us five cents for every pipe for simply bringing it in but they won't let us charge the five cents for every pipe they bring into America do you think that's fair?

EU already proposed to do like with japan, reduce most (90-95%) of tarrifs to zero, US hasnt responded.

EU wants to lower tarrifs thats why they did it with japan and canada. There is no need t force them into anything.

I would think the economy is going well, the trade war not so much.

You mean the trade deficit? Thats not a trade war.

Trade deficits are quite normal in trade its close to impossible to have a balanced trade as commerce is divers and spread out of many sectors and private companies. How are you going to stop private companies from buying or selling?

Not really, why would previous politicians agree to bad deals? MAkes no sense just like trump they wanted re-election and a strong US economy.

I am for what EU proposes: get rid of all tarrifs. There was no need for trump to reject this.

Reality now is the US charges 5% for copper pipes imports while sweden doesnt charge anything for imports.

In some products the US has lowers tarrifs and an advantage in others non US countries haves those.

Tarrifs are not why the US has a trade deficit, thats a trump fallacy.

But you realize that the economic power of the EU is much stronger than that of the US?

And if a single American howls at me here because the evil EU raises so much mer tarrif on US cars than the US levies on EU cars, then he gets this Trump BS hit with a hammer and nail on the forehead!

And I have no idea why you think the EU is breaking in here. You realize that the EU ... if it comes to a real trade war ... the US can just as destroy as the US may do it with the EU?
And since the US is making many enemies worldwide with Trump's action ... woe the US if they join forces against the US!

They want to sell BMW's in the US. They need to agree to remove all tariffs or just stagnate malaise like we did under Obama.

Are you seriously asking or are you just kidding?

Alone with the punitive tolls Trump has enough enemies made if you are attentive and without the "I love Trump" glasses in front of the eyes go through the world!

So who are these new enemies Trump has made?

Is Britain now our enemy, Germany maybe?

    Tell us who they are.

It was your claim, not mine.

We need to disband NATO, let the EU fend for themselves. Russia can have the whole lot of them.

The EU (complete, because it is an economic union), China, Russia, India, Canada, Mexico, India, Japan ... more?

All of these countries, from Friend to Non-Friend, were in a good economic relationship with the US before Trump went into White House. And now?

    Wake up!

    Agreed!

In any case, the US is no longer a reliable partner and ally ...
Economically, the US sees Europe as a Feiind rather than a friend ...
Constantly these idiotic allegations and insults from the US against the Europeans ...
Except for the nuclear protection shield, the US does absolutely nothing for NATO anyway ...
The US presence in Europe costs the Europeans a lot of money ...

And somehow Putin is far more trustworthy than Trump. Sure, he's basically a dictator, but Putin knows where to turn and at least he stands by his word!

    Oh ... how cute!

Let's take a look at the fact that this statism is complete nonsense that you show:

    Point 1:
Please deduct from your military spending the things that you spend only because of your worldwide ambitions ... ambitions which the Europeans do not have! For example, your military spending on the bases and troops in Okinawa is completely irrelevant.

    Point 2:
Can we then put the costs we bear for your bases in Europe into our budget?

They are selling BMW's and the german economy is doing quite fine they have a 3% budget surplus and 2-3% GDP growth.

And trump just rejected no tarrifs, he probably wants to milk this some more until the election.

Where and with what? Show me please where these evil Euros do so! By fact it is a mix of there the EU takes more tariff as the US, but there the US more as the EU and in the end the traffis on all products are about the same!

But more than that ... the actions of Trump endanger the Americans themselves! Example? Take the punitive tariffs on steel and aluminum!

    Why did Trump do that?
Apart from the pressure on other countries apart, according to own statement of Trump to the protection of the approximately 140,000 US steel workers and allegedly or actually 20,000 new jobs are created here now.

That's only half the story, but Trump does not tell the rest of the truth and does not know Americans or does not want to know!

Who buys this steel and the aluminum?
The metal processing industry, so automotive, aircraft, throwing, machine building, etc. ... and these need as everyone cheap prices when purchasing steel and then make their products, simply because the influence on the price = national and international competitiveness of their Products!

As far as understood and agreed?

According to Google, the current steel price per metric ton:

    USA = 1,002 USD!
    Europe = 570 EUR = about 665 USD

So over 300 USD more expensive in the US and that endangers the sales of the US steel processing companies and thus jobs! And according to Google, depending on the source, about 5 to 6 million people work in this sector.

Was that clear to you? Do you shrug seriously here?

Lol ... your ignorance is sometimes funny!

    Fact # 1
The Merheit to BMW which are sold in the US, which are manufactured in the BMW factory in Spartenburg / South Carolina by US workers!

    Fact # 2
BMW is together with Mercedes the largest US car exporter of cars "Made in the USA" ... in front of the US brands and even in front of Toyota!

    Fact # 3
Each of the BMW X Series SUV is made in the USA only. Each of these SUV's going to Europe, which is also due 10% tariff in the EU as on every Dodge, Cadillac etc.!

    So much for the facts!
