Trump: Talking to NK's Kim a waste, 'will do what needs to be done'

President Trump on Sunday sounded a war drum over North Korean leader Kim Jong Un refusing to de-escalate his nuclear weapons program, telling Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to stop wasting time negotiating with Kim because the U.S. “will do what needs to be done.”

“I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man,” tweeted Trump, using his nickname for Kim. “Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!"

Trump is just saying what we all know to be true anyway. Talking to North Korea is a waste of time, because they've made it perfectly clear that there is no chance of them accepting any agreement leading to the disbanding of their nuclear weapons program.

 

My guess this is a near the last shot at diplomacy Trump style. My better guess is Kim will ignore this as well. Can't say I completely blame Kim for insisting on nukes. He's painted himself into a box and he legitimately thinks he has to have them to coexist with the US and the rest of the world. Once he gets deliverable nukes then the sanctions will likely slowly relax. It's over.

What he fails to understand is the US isn't going to allow it esp with Iran watching intently to see which way to go. Kim backs off he survives. He doesn't then he's a dead man walking.

 

Well said, primate. I think Trump needs to exhaust every possible non-violent option in order to appease the anti-war crowd. But with Kim's missile program advancing at such a fast pace, time may be running out.

Do you think there's any chance that Kim backs off?

 

No. I hope so though. I worry about the NK people. They've suffered enough for the last 70 years. They don't need a war. I wish they could do something covert to change the regime. There's assets in place for that but I have doubts it can be successful.

 

No talk will stop or slow NK from getting nukes that can reach North America. This is undeniable.

Either we accept this and move on, or we attack.

And Trump insults Tillerson......... publicly. At this point, everyone who works for Trump hates his guts.

 

So tell us why they should. Why do they have less right to nuclear weapons than the US, or India, or Pakistan, or Israel.

 

Guess Trump learned from Bush that even an unjustified war can boost your ratings. Of course in the judgement of history you turn out to be a moron but long term thinking isn't a Trump strength. Wait, let me amend that thought, thinking is not a Trump strength.

 

At this point, Trump might just as well disband the State Department - he doesn't listen to them anyway. He still hasn't appointed an Ambassador to South Korea. Can''t figure out if he's just that lazy or if he is that scatter brained.

 

Have you considered the possibility of both?

 

I am telling you, friend that they all hate Trump.. The house, the senate and everyone on his staff. Some of them may be afraid of him, but they all hate him. Trump is a train wreck.

Why.....because Lil Kim has shown he will act on his threats, and he will play slim shady. Like he did with Syria.

 

He didn't insult him at all.

I'll admit that Israel shouldn't have nukes, and that there is a lot of hypocrisy in the USA and France allowing them and helping them to do so. But Israel is at the very least not making irrational threats to Iran or other countries its at odds with.

The United States invented nuclear weapons. India and Pakistan having nukes serves as a deterrent to any potential conflict. And their countries aren't run by batshit crazy leaders who are threatening countries of the world.

 

Trump said that Tillerson was wasting his time. That's insulting.. Trump is a stupid man completely lacking in finesse.

 

He didn't insult him. He even complimented him in the same breath. Trump was making a point and people are taking it the wrong way.

 

Uhn no.....that's not insulting. Not with Lil Kim not opening up Official talks. It appears he is smart enough to figure that one out.

 

I hate to say this but if Trump refuses dialogue and negotiations, and insists on a nuclear war that will kill millions, the Cabinet needs to either temporarily suspend Trump's authority and if they won't act, military needs to detain him.

It's North Korea that is refusing to negotiate, not Trump.

 

Lil Kim is refusing dialogue and negotiations.....and insists that he will strike the US with a nuke. Insisting on turning his country into a glass parking lot while endangering others due to his stupidity.

they want an end to the economic embargo in exchange for limits on their military nuke program.

 

No he hasn't. North Korea makes blustery threats all the time and they are bullshit.
