It's not a thought process. It's the way that the mechanical process works. It's science.

With that comment it is clear you don't understand semi-automatic firearms or how they operate.

No. As others have pointed out, with a bump stock you only get one shot each time the trigger gets pulled. The executive branch has way overstepped its authority and is creating new de facto laws on the spot. The NRA is complicit in that they specifically asked the ATF to review the rules regarding bump stocks even though the ATF has said they were legal numerous times previously. The POTUS basically asked/told the DOJ to ban them and the DOJ did just that. And here we are. The GOA and other smaller organizations have filed lawsuits and the NRA with all of their clout and money is sitting around being "disappointed."

It’s the mechanics of how the firearm operates. One pull of the trigger, equals one round being fired. A bump stock does not change that. A machine gun fires more than one round, with a single pull of the trigger.

Yes, that must be it because I was under the impression that the ATF said that bump stocks were legal on multiple occasions then the NRA asked them to review their legality, which they did, and now bump stocks are banned. Thank goodness THAT didn't happen. /s

Thats because the NRA, likely like both you and me, didn't see any way for ATF to reverse their prior decision.

I really don't care what shady reasoning you think they were using. The bottom line is that they called for the review, got it, and now we have new regulations and a ban where none existed before. Beyond that salient fact, what is the NRA doing right now regarding this ban? I'll tell you what they're doing, they're not fighting it, they're not preparing a lawsuit like the GOA is, they're begging the government to pay people for the stocks that they are now required to destroy to avoid becoming felons.

NRA members deserve better. The NRA is supposed to protect the 2nd Amendment not politicians or parties.

You're not understanding what actually happened. I'm not surprised.

I'm familiar with what the ATF wrote for justification. What changed between their initial decision that the bump stock was not a machine gun to the current decision? The physics didn't change. The mechanics didn't change. The person in charge of the bureaucrat changed.

If bump stocks are illegal, why isn't it illegal to use rubber bands to bump fire?

    Yes.
    Your strawman remains.
    Red herring
Sorry - seemed obvious to me.
The Obama wanted to ban guns. The regulation in question here does not ban a gun.
Thus, relating The Obama's stated desired to Trumps actions, and the ensuing reactions from the pro-gun side to same - one real, one imagined - is a false equivalence.

    Stawman. False equivalence.
    Anything else?[/][/]

Where in the quote you provided does the NRA support a ban on bump stocks?

I did. We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

Here's the bottom line. I won't ever convince you of anything. I'll just post the responses to this new ban from the NRA and GAO so you can compare the two and decide for yourself whether the NRA is working in your interest on this or not. For me, begging for an "amnesty period" in relation to an illegal ban is weak as hell. The GOA, OTOH, sound like the NRA used to be.

    NRA Response:
This week, the Department of Justice announced that it would soon be releasing a final rule classifying “bump-stock-type-devices” as “machineguns” under the National Firearms Act.

These devices came to national attention in October 2017 after the horrific attack in Las Vegas. As multiple media accounts correctly pointed to at the time, there was overwhelming legislative support for proposals that went far beyond these specific devices and some that could have potentially jeopardized all semiautomatic firearms. Rather than sit back and watch a legislative over-reaction, the NRA asked Congress to let ATF review its prior determinations on bump fire stocks.

Some have used our October 2017 statement to claim that NRA supports ATF’s final rule, but as NRA-ILA’s Executive Director Chris Cox noted only days after our statement was issued, “We don’t believe that bans have ever worked on anything.”

We also made this clear in our comments to ATF on the proposed rule earlier this year. In our comments, we further advised that ATF should at a minimum make an amnesty period available to deal with the fundamental inequity imposed on law-abiding gun owners who purchased their bump fire stocks in good faith reliance on prior ATF determinations. We continue to pursue the availability of a period of amnesty with the administration.

While there can be disagreement on legislative strategy, it’s important to remember that we will soon face a hostile, anti-gun Congress led by Nancy Pelosi. It’s critical that all gun owners unite and prevent the Bloomberg-bought Congress from dismantling our Second Amendment freedom.

    GOA Response:
    Dear Friend:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) today announced its long-expected regulations banning bump stocks.

I want to assure you that Gun Owners of America has already prepared a lawsuit against the ATF and the Department of Justice to seek an injunction protecting gun owners from these unconstitutional regulations.

We will be filing our lawsuit as soon as the ATF regulations are officially published.

As written, this case has important Second Amendment implications for gun owners.

After all, in the coming days, an estimated half a million bump stock owners will have the difficult decision of either destroying or surrendering their valuable property -- or else risk felony prosecution.

GOA will argue that courts should be highly suspect when an agency changes its “interpretation” of a statute in order to impair the exercise of an enumerated constitutional right.

I don't know what the NRA supports or doesn't support. That's the problem. One thing I do know is that they are complicit in this new ban and their statement that you quoted proves as much.

wow, he just posted it for you.

NRA supports a ban on all devices designed and used to circumvent the NFA's regulations upon machine guns

"Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."

The NRA supports the ban on bump stocks, and other devices designed and used to circumvent the law regulating machine guns and banning most.

I live in Oregon, -a very "blue" state. I live in logging country an hour from a major city and 4 miles from a small town of 6,000. I hear gun fire every day as people target practice. And lately I've heard fully automatic "machine gun" fire coming from four very different directions and about a half mile away. What's going on? Last I knew a person had to have a license and prove a need in order to own a machine gun.

Sure it does. That, and consumable products are a different matter than hardware that can last for centuries.
