    Trump trashes Fauci and makes baseless coronavirus claims in campaign call

    Referring to Fauci and other health officials as "idiots," Trump declared the country ready to move on from the health disaster, even as cases are again spiking and medical experts warn the worst may be yet to come.

    Baselessly claiming that if Fauci was in charge more than half a million people would be dead in the United States, Trump portrayed the recommendations offered by his own administration to mitigate spread of the disease as a burdensome annoyance.

    "People are tired of Covid. I have these huge rallies," Trump said, phoning into a call with campaign staff from his namesake hotel in Las Vegas, where he spent two nights amid a western campaign swing. "People are saying whatever. Just leave us alone. They're tired of it. People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots."

    If you don't feel any empathy for the 225,000 victims of COVID in the words of POTUS, tell yourself that you aren't dreaming.

    Trump will not take any responsibility for the biggest public health disaster this country has ever seen.

    Better for him to try to destroy Fauci's work and reputation.

    The country was ready to move on from Trump in August 2017... Due to a willfully blind Senate, it didn't happen in February, so we've had to wait until next month.

    I sort of like listening to Fauci myself... I've been working on my 'Fauci' impersonation and I'm told it's getting pretty good..

    I like the candidates who weren't strong enough to avoid infection....

    Trump needs to shut up on everything Covid. That being said, Biden doesn't offer anything better other than his silence. Probably because anything Biden says at this point is in direct opposition of what he's said at some other point.

    40% of the deaths were in nursing homes. The vast majority of remaining deaths were those with underlying medical conditions. Trumps rose-colored view is still closer to the truth. I wouldn't call the overcautious "idiots"; nothing causes more fear than the unknown.

    You are incorrect. If that were true, Reps would have more cases than Dems. You must admire Trump to emulate him as you do.

    Complete nonsense. Excess death counts prove this. These were not people who would have died otherwise this year. Please come to terms with that. Or are you arguing that we should just not care about the lives of those with diabetes and other underlying conditions? Which is it?

    I was walking about Covid deaths and my statement is still true. I voted for Jo. No need to get unfriendly.

    Covid is not an issue for healthy people and there is no reason to force them indoors. The vast majority of underlying illness is due to government subsidized food and drugs. Caring about public health would mean removing subsidies and no politician will stand up to big food and drug companies.

    it's too late to do anything other than wear masks and social distance while we wait for the vaccine

    If by "Jo" you mean Biden...I'm a little surprised but you're not alone.
