Per the Post, intelligence agencies warned Trump about the novel coronavirus in “more than a dozen classified briefings” in January and February, which traced the virus’s spread, China’s downplaying of the threat, and “raised the prospect of dire political and economic consequences.” The warnings came via the President’s Daily Briefing, a daily report controlled by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that informs the president about significant geopolitical developments and potential security threats. The virus was mentioned in the PDB both through in-depth articles and smaller updates on the latest coronavirus news, and mentions of the coronavirus in the PDB became more frequent by mid-to-late January.

As the president was receiving these intelligence briefings chock-full of alarms about the impending global pandemic, however, Trump was publicly downplaying the virus as an actual threat. The president claimed in late February that coronavirus cases would soon “be down to close to zero,” and predicted, “like a miracle, it will disappear.” By the time the president told Americans on March 10, “Just stay calm. It will go away,” the Post reports that warnings about the coronavirus in the PDB had “taken on the aspect of a dire drumbeat.” It wasn’t until one day later on March 11 that the president finally changed his tune and announced a European travel ban in an address from the Oval Office—after more than two months of repeated warnings from the intelligence community.

Not only will there be a political cost for this criminal negligence, but I hope a congressional committee will investigate Trump as soon as Biden takes office.

Tens of thousands of Americans have died because of Trump's incompetence and recklessness.

This is inexcusable! It indicates a series of lies downplaying a deadly virus like "we acted early" and "it will be like a miracle when in a few days it disappears". He is responsible for the US being #10 among 200 nations in the number of deaths per million of population. He is a major national security threat.

This is completely inexcusable. Now watch some Trumper excuse him.

The right is dodging this because there is no defense. Trump is whining that he was too busy and too distracted "fighting impeachment" at the time, but my memory of his "fighting" consists of him denying, brushing it off, and playing golf. And leaving America to the graces of luck and health when a pandemic is coming means he isn't fit to be in office.

Let's say he was very busy with impeachment though he wasn't. If he can't manage "multitasking" to that extent with something so important, he is, again, unfit to be in office.

The Republicans are also unfit for office given their defense of such an unfit Chief Dope in the WH.

Gonna be some hard to take fake news when your boy loses in November....

His entire "acted early" claim is based on his stopping foreign nationals from China in early February. However Airport screening was horrible and testing was nonexistant for weeks.

Ironically, it shows that travel bans do not work.

The DNI was contacted by the Washington Compost and ended up making up a story instead. Gotta envy how easy it is to believe any and all fake news.

He will lose partly on the basis of all his lying, and this time it has cost lives. He still lies about it, saying that the US is doing more testing than any other country. FALSE! And he is lying by saying the US is getting better results than any other country and many are contacting us to find out what we're doing and how we do so well. FALSE! THE USA HAS ONE THIRD OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CASES IN THE WORLD, AND THE SECOND RUNNER-UP IS SPAIN WITH ONE FIFTH THE NUMBER OF CASES WE HAVE.

Trump is a compulsive liar and a proven sociopath.

AND it is his failures alone that has made the US the country with a third of all cases in the world. Hence, excessive deaths. He was too worried about how it would reflect on him, so he made it worse by his stupidity.

Another one that thinks government can stop a global pandemic. He was so worried that he suffered the slings and arrows of democrats and the demedia calling him a racist and telling people to ignore his fear mongering about the virus.

If you mean that being among the worst countries is "doing well". Most of us don't.

Even in per million cases we are doing poorly. Clearly you didn't know that.

From day one, Trump has resisted the daily intelligence briefings. He doesn't have the patience for them. Personally, I think he suffers from a form of ADD - which is not his fault. But it does explain his need for graphs and pictures and for the report to be read to him, rather than him reading it himself.

Warn Trump all you like, his reality is unfortunately defined by Fock Snooze and Rush Limbaugh, who in turn are informed/guided by Trump's ignorant base and the Russian trolls who disinform and radicalize them through fake news (e.g. the Moscow Pundit) and their social media trolls/bots.

LOL, others haven’t. Such is the belief that governments can stop a global pandemic.
