This is what I love about America. Squabbling about staying in another money sink in the Middle East that serves no American interest. How many trillions did we blow in the Iraq war? What is the result today? I think America did a few billion in trade last year with Iraq. Meanwhile China did 30 billion dollars of business in Iraq last year and just signed MONUMENTAL agreements with Iraq to rebuild it. What in the holy hell is America doing? Deliberately destroying our economy to create a leviathan empire in China? Did you see the NBA taking a knee before China today in abject apology for a member of the NBA standing up for Hong Kong? China is increasingly controlling more and more and more and they never have to spend a dime in ridiculous wars. They just come in after them and clean up economically without accepting even a single refugee...... absolute insanity.

Yep, we have forgotten about how to do diplomacy, regressing into partisanship within Washington. I said absolutely nothing about staying. I mean is having 50 soldiers there to stop an "ally" from attacking, staying? To me, not really, but you really should have come up with something better before just willy nilly leaving. It is absolutely crazy.

I agree it's not just Trump. Trump is just the cover.

Totally agree! We spend our resources on Middle East ensuring stable oil deliveries when absolute majority of oil in the US comes from American continents - so we waste a ton of money and lives to make sure Germans, Italians and Chinese have a stable access to oil. This allows Europeans to have generous social safety nets at the expense of their military commitments.
The US should give the EU a formal warning - in 90 days we pull out of the Middle East and whatever happens - happens. If they want us there then we should literally impose a tax on EU and force them to pay for the expenses.
The current set up is just insane!

I don't disagree about Trump's fitness but as I have said many times before, he is vastly superior to his competitors.

 

Not in the same way congress represents us. Had congress turned the agreement into a treaty. I'd feel differently about the issue.
Obama did it unilaterally because he knew congress would never ratify it as a treaty because it was a bad deal.

You shouldn't make bad deals because it's the best you can get, at least not when you have the stronger position.

What was bad about it, enough to pull out? It was being upheld according to what we know, Iran was not progressing in making nuclear weapons. Now they are so how was it good to pull out?

There is no defacto state of ISIS anymore. Just some individuals who should be executed asap.
