Gender is defined at the societal level while sex is defined at the biological one, according to the dictionary, modern research papers and by virtually all medical organizations.

He said conservatives were calling transgerism a mental illness which I illustrated with sources and offered more. He also said they morned the good ol days which is the base platform of MAGA which is a common slogan loved by most conservatives.
What do you believe happened to people that were identified as having mental illness in these greatly missed past times?

The first part is correct, the second part I will have to neither agree or disagree — much of the research I have read and as how I understand it, some, not all, transgenders brains are more similar to the sex they want to identify as, hormonal and chemical levels follow this as well. There is more going on that what you allude to. It’s not just mental - it’s physical and chemical differences in the brain.

I appreciate your honesty, kudos. But chemical imbalances can be treated much like my mother-in-law’s schizophrenia. Hypothetically, if a drug or therapy could ‘solve’ trangenderism, should it?

 

Its not just chemical imbalances but also physical irregularities in the brain that more closely resemble that of the opposite sex. I would think most people would like to move closer to the line that is seen as “normal” so if it was treatable I absolutely think many people would do so.

At this time though it doesn’t seem to be treatable, trans people have to go through psychiatric analysis and counseling in many places prior to surgery.

Transgenderism has nothing to do with gender according to recent papers, it’s genetic factors mainly that cause the brain to not match the body. So to answer your question, genetics.
