    GENEVA (Reuters) - A Nov. 18 story headlined “U.S. has world’s highest rate of children in detention -U.N. study” is withdrawn. The United Nations issued a statement on Nov. 19 saying the number was not current but was for the year 2015. No replacement story will be issued.

    I found an article where MANFRED NOWAK of the United Nations did correct the impression which the !00,000 number widely reported was a cumulative total for the year 2015 the last year for which they had complete numbers,it included those held from 2 days riht up to held over one year.The latest numbers he has for 2019 show a maximum of 69,550 being held which he says is the largest number being held by any country in the world.

    It's costing taxpayers a fortune just like our for profit prison system is.We are paying way more to keep someone in prison than the vast majority of senior citizens in the USA live on.

    It wasn't fake, it is still true we have more children incarcerated than any other country the world but it is not 100,000 now it's 69,550.

    Is English your second language? Your OP title says, "US has highest rate of child detention." Operative world being, HAS. It doesn't say HAD, which is past tense.

    Why not just admit that the story was fake and that you fell for it? It's not like it's your fault.
