Math and science? They ditched that in favor of blm 1.0, Advanced LGBT studies and global warming hysteria.

Numerous factors involved. One is a lack of national standards. My guess is that some of our states do better in regard to global averages.

Republicans are not responsible for common core teaching or eliminating racist exit exams. And right now the teacher's unions are holding our kids hostage rather than being in the classroom.

So you think watching a movie that a British judge deemed to be fiction is somehow educational in math and science?

Well pretty simple really. If you spend the most on say a house and it comes out like crap, then blame the builders.. Or in this case teachers..

Probably says more about the British judge than the truth or fiction of the film. While the causes of climate change are debatable, I think the fact that it is changing is pretty well established science.

Many overseas schools teach history, climate science, and current events. The question is why are American students to stupid to learn multiple topics?

Yes, we know. Republicans are responsible for nothing because they do nothing in government.

Of course. These countries teach appropriate subjects to students, not left wing propaganda. Some of them may not even teachers unions. I never heard a political remark from a teacher from grade school through college in my youth. Oddly, my teachers all focused on the subject.

Perhaps. The question is how to we account for that? Genetics or not these kids are the future of this nation. If they fall we all do.

They aren't. The educational community is too stupid to put education above political recruitment.

    We already blame the teachers.
    Doesn’t seem to be working

Given our size and diversity, 10th place is not bad. Also, as access to education expands, the demand for qualified teachers expands as well, which may also reduce the quality of education.

Why have Republicans not fixed this in the communities they control? Or on a national level when they control it there?

Difference in political philosophies. Republicans usually favor "States' Rights." That prevents national standards and national leverage via national labor organizations. Ultimately, the economy of scale wins out against local and state boards of education.

They're not. They won't learn unless they're held to a standard. Hold people to a standard and, shockingly, they'll often rise to meet the standard. If you don't, then they won't.

We have people graduating who are at an elementary level when it comes to reading and math. How can they graduate?....easy, they're pushed along and never required to learn. It wasn't always that way, but it is now.

Agreed. We live in a "fun culture." And, sometimes learning is just hard. The trick is learning to love to learn and enjoying accomplishments.

So why are the lowest ranked states, mostly red states with little union power?

The worst education system in the nation is in Alabama. You claiming they’re teaching LGBT and global warming there?

We could emphasize excellence over anti-racism.

Is anti racism why places like Alabama and Alaska are lagging behind?

When I was in 7th grade it was the first time I had to switch classrooms for each individual subject. What they did was put all the folks who were good at math in the top math class and worked their way down. Same thing with all the other subjects. This way if a kid is good at math s/he can be in the top class, and if s/he sucks at history s/he'd be in a class that moves more slowly. Is there a reason we don't do this today?
