DMV's are state agencies, not federal.

One is vulnerable when they pay their bills on-line. These services inheret risk, I am in no way suggesting they are easily compromised, but electronic eaves-dropping is obviously on the rise with greater sophisticaiton. FYI, banks are breached every day, their loses are passed onto the customer.

a bit of an old article but it still happens

While the Post Office no longer provides a critical service for everyone, its services are still needed at the moment.

    I didn't write this response.

But the post I did write has disappeared.

You mean it's still not done???...

I think they should close as many as to make themselves profitable as soon as possible. I do agree there should be some. I know a lot of the elderly do not have computers and wouldn't know how or understand how to use it let alone do bill pay.

The USPS is one of the few government organizations that plan for 10 years out. And they are doing a good job closing down some costly overhead. They know that in 10 years most shipping will be parcial post for shipping and not letters. Plus, I understand the Fed has held up some postal money to pay down the deficit.

So how does this great decision affect us. Well we may get less junk mail as a result, and we don't need to check the mailbox on the week ends. Other than those benifits, it will keep the cost of shipping down world wide for all of us..

Some of the people affected will be the corporations that use the postal service as a free perk for campain donations. Also, some relics of the postal system may lose their retirement, and go postal.

This is another significant sign that expecting to keep one job for 70years and get a hefty retirement is becomming a thing of the past. Retirement programs are going bust, and government jobs like these, which keep relic workers limited in acheivement and fucntion are becomming scarce. Welcome to the real world government workers. They should do more of this with government funded relic teachers and their massive relic administration staff. That will cut the fat.

They'll just privatize the rural ones and the mail will still get delivered. Utilities have been talking about charging a monthly fee for paper bills and accepting checks. The old folks will learn fast when they have to pay to hold on to the past.

The US Postal Service is a money-losing organization.

It will never be profitable if it has to become responsible for
    it's retirement funding.

First, close the post offices that aren't financially viable, and replace them with the village post offices that are proposed. There's no reason why a small satellite post office couldn't function as a service of a local grocery store or large retailer (think: WalMart).

Two, cut local home delivery to three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Cut business delivery to three days a week - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Any person/business who finds this to be inconvenient can either pay an additional surcharge to have mail delivered daily, or make arrangements to pickup their mail at a postal facility on the off days.

Finally, raise the price of stamps. No more of this odd and unusual postage - a first class letter should be .50 postage. When that becomes too little, make it .55 or .60 - raise it in .05 increments.

If it takes $100,000 to run a post office they really need to rethink what the (*)(*)(*)(*) they are doing. That's insane. Cut delivery to two or three days a week (except express mail) and stop this assinine naming of post offices. Cut the rent and problem solved.

This would cut costs, hell it would even reduce emissions.Since we seem to be headed back to this direction.

Ya, no it's not. How about reading the (*)(*)(*)(*) paper before saying stupid (*)(*)(*)(*) like this.
