The U.S. military has shot down the Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean.

While the balloon was off the coast of South Carolina, the balloon was shot down by U.S. military fighter jets on Saturday afternoon, according to Fox News sources.

A senior defense official said during a Thursday afternoon briefing that the U.S. government is "confident" the surveillance balloon is from the People's Republic of China.

When asked about the balloon on Saturday by a reporter, Biden said "we're going to take care of it." …

He waited til it was done gathering Intel, then shot it down over water to give the Chinese plausible deniability.

 

There are places in Montana where there are enough non populated square miles to safely shoot the thing down. It was a ballon or multiples of them not a fuel laden large metal spy aircraft.

 

It’s a balloon, it’s likely there was enough non metal material to keep it from sinking quickly. If the Will was there they shout it down in such a way as that there would be ships nearby to recover it. If our government t is acting in Americas interest and not Chinas.

 

It’s embarrassing how China thought Biden was so weak that they could blatantly do this.

No, shooting down something that high up in the atmosphere (where it is effected by the Jet Stream), over a wooded land area, would have been stupidity. The odds of being able to track all its falling debris, are better, over water (not to mention safer, for those below). I would be very surprised if we did not have naval assets below, when the balloon was brought down.

The only indication of "weakness," here, is that of the Chinese, not having the competence to control their balloon, which was almost certainly not intended to take the path it did. This is like the baseball pitcher, who throws a ball over the backstop, then explains, "the wind took it."

BTW, a second balloon has been spotted, over South America.

You don’t think it’s path was intentional? Here in New Mexico lots of people fly balloons and know how to steer them, I don’t know how, but they do.
