US politicians do not obey the public. Politicians obey the money - the PAC to get in, and then the lobbyists fund their reelection. It appears that different sources of funding have different characteristics: Big Pharma contributes to the politicians in various ways but pays nothing to the public. As a result, when the cost of a particular medication increases, the public does not rejoice. Starting a war always gets support from the public employed by or indirectly dependent on the weapons industry. But eventually, if the war goes badly, the public support slowly fades away.
US politicians do not obey the public. And therefore we can not take responsibility for what our politicians and therefore our nation does.
It's not 'we are waging a proxy war with Russia.' It's 'Joe is waging a proxy war with Russia.' How many of us are crazy enough to go halfway around the world to play 'poke the bear?'
There is a large amount of truth to this. There are many reasons why that is. Politicians are often more likely to come from a different background than the general public. There are also lobbyists, so politicians are hearing some messages louder than others. Ordinary people do not have the same access to politicians as lobbyists. There are actually both some pros and cons to this. It depends what the issue is. There is also politics. Sometimes politicians have to vote a certain way, even though they know it is wrong, because the news media will spin what they do if they do not vote a certain way, and will make it more difficult for them to get reelected.
But that's what politics is solely all about and the reason people get into politics, money, to enrich themselves. Those that are more willing to stab their own mother in the back, rise higher up the political ladder. Put politicians on minimum wage, then things will change.
But, should anything go sideways, they'll all blame their constituents. Just look at 'climate change'. Where fossil fuel is to blame as it was the only source on offer and available to us all that they made trillions off the back of it, yet point they finger at the consumers. Go figure. Side note: I don't agree with the climate crisis theatrics. But this is not the place for that to be discussed.
