This is a good enough reason to move to Utah, if you have school aged children.

Utah to require teaching that US is a Republic, not a Democracy (Three cheers for Utah!)

If what you print is factual. It is a prime example of when a group within the government (DOE and it's unions) is out of control from those who are obligated to oversee it’s regulation. And where the tax payer has allowed the school system to be too big to fail, and has no ability to provide their input or opposition. That is a run away school system and will become the norm for many states.

America’s taxpayers are losing the race for power against itself.

I agree, but you lose your Constitutional rights and freedom when government is restricted from it's own ability to regulate and monitor the agent (DOE), it funds with your tax dollars. I agree that republic is the term chosen. I have no problem with that. My issue is when a Imperial entity begins to form within the government and will upset the balance of rights to sway it in their favor for political gain.

In other words, it doesn't really matter.

Well it does matter for taxonomic purposes, but the Utahns are correct in emphasizing the checks placed on the people in a democratic republic versus full democracy.

The distinction matters. We are a democratic Republic.

Govt used to be a required course in high school. So was economics. They should be again. Our kids are not getting a complete education.

Those of us who make the effort to teach our kids this at home are giving them an edge that is priceless. The NEA is too wrapped up in the liberal, revisionist history, agenda, they're screwing the kids. The teachers who don't agree with the liberal white-wash, really don't have enough influence to change it.

Personally I think that this is just some pathetic attempt by each side to get more people to join their parties.

Regardless of what it taught in public schools, the public education will continue to have difficulty teaching. Like they have proven, it will fail.

Of course not. The fact that power is ultimately given to the people is a myth created by Muslim Communists.

Public education is political, no way around it. Unions manipulate Democrats to get funding for schools, and the schools hide behind students and use them as poster children to get public approval for more money. The added payoff is easier work environment for the administrators and teachers, lees working hours, smaller classes, and the unions get more membership which = more money. Each of the States in the USA, have massive DOE systems and universities that consume the majority of the state’s taxes. Highly unfair if you ask me.

When the state's government lose the ability to regulate a out of control schools system DOE you have a monopoly. If the taxpayers are funding the DOE and schools, they must have the ability to regulate it so it does not get to be so large as to be an imperial entity within the USA and the state.

The Federal government regulates Corporations who feed off taxpayer dollars via treasury notes and who have agendas to be come so big that they pose a threat to the economical and national security of the USA by way of monopolizing other corporations and the people of the USA. It’s call Anti Trust Act. Or anti monopoly act. This should be applied to the DOE and unions that suck up taxpayer dollars.

The federal government is a Constitutionally mandated democratic republic.

The United States itself is composed of purely democratic states.

Hate to break it to the Republicans but the United States of America is in fact a democracy.

    de·moc·ra·cy/diˈmäkrəsē/Noun
    1. A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
    2. A state governed in such a way.

The analysis of this clarification is correct. However, when the Government fails to regulate and control governing bodies like the DOE and public schools within the State’s Government, we have a breach of this concept. We then have an imperialistic education system, and a governing body that not only funds it but has no control on the operation and funding of the DOE and schools.

But the school system will continue to fail theaching the Democratic process and what it stands for. Because they lack the ability to teach effectively.

We are technically a democratic republic by definition so I don't think this is that big of a deal.

I can see that happening in the Utah state. However, the rest of the USA has problems with the basics of just teaching simple consepts of math and science.

The thing people need to understand about Utah is the prevelent mormon culture. The state is not going to be able to deal with a massive influx of poor immigrants!

The mormons stress self-reliance. They are going to be very much against any progressive welfare policies to deal with all the poverty entering their state.

Exactly, poor immigrant students can be brainwashed early in life and they will be more obedient to their superiors and their religion. Once they are indoctrinated in their way of culture, they will either be accepted or excommunicated from the culture. In other words, schools will make it harder for people of no color to live in their communities without the indoctrination of religious thinking. Which is what the people of no color want. Eventually, the poor will not be able to afford to live there and they will move to states like NV, where majority of the population is poor and uneducated but yet able to get by in prisions or work for minimum wage in the tourist industry.

With the success of the Polynesion people who live in the State of UT, I see no problem for people of color to obey the culture and cognitive structuring they will undergo as youth.

I'm sure it appears useless to liberals. We are a republic and a representative democracy. We are not a democracy and no institution in the U.S. is less democratic than the Democrats. Card check anyone?

Utah has a good school system.

Todd, did you get a vote on Obamacare? Did anyone outside of Congress get a vote? Did then Speaker Nancy Pelosi not say, "If no one wanted it we would have still passed it." The U.S. is not a Democracy. Back to civics class for you.
