It wanes instantaneously since vaccines do not protect against infection. None of them do. They never have. They cause the immune system to develop antibodies. The antibodies deal with the infection after it arrives. What has waned is the original virus for which the vaccines were developed. It has been replaced by a delta strain that is more resistant to those antibodies.

The good news is that the vaccines and the antibodies they motivate still provide some reduction in the severity of symptoms. That gives the body time to develop antibodies against the new strain. At some point we will need new vaccines as we see different strains. So far so good.
