The record power demand was caused by record high temperatures, but there is no evidence of global warming....:roflol:

match up the days in Australia to say Arizona in the USA. Tell us how hot a day in AZ is on December 25 vs the temperature in Australia? That might explain global warming to you.

Come to think of it, you started an insult campaign. Is that not precisely what children do to each other?

I am not at all up to date on Australia's cost for natural gas is. But wasn't there a report saying they sold the gas to other areas?

I would judge wind and solar to be a non reliable back up source. But for the battery, which stores only DC current, the power not used is lost.

We here in America have a well developed source of our electricity. But for the Nuclear nut jobs, whom hate that form of energy, we could be totally up to date and not need wind nor solar.

Imagine, No Naked Roofs. Like Germany. And they are :flagcanada: latitude.
    All Roof Tops with solar.
No need for solar electricity farms.

    As far as Nuclear.
Regardless of all those safety features,
    it only takes one oopsy.
And oopsies happen. America, Ukraine and Japan too.
Moi, I'm not willing to risk it.
Contamination with half lives measured in hundreds of generations of PeopleKind.
No thank you. I'd rather light a candle ;)

If you had as few car crashes as you have nuclear accidents ....

All nuclear products were natural to Earth. Only processing them caused the concentration enough to boil water.

i am not clear what most think nuclear is all about, but the simple act of boiling water is what it is all about.

nuclear is a well understood technology. We use it in navy ships. We have no accidents. That to me stands for safety in spades.

I thought we stopped liking Australians when Mel Gibson went all Stormfront Town Drunk on just about anyone he encountered in Malibu.

Seems to me the trend is toward cleaner renewable natural gas.

Mmmmmm but it might also explain the fact to you that Australia is in the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE you know the bit that tilts away from the sun when the NORTHERN HEMISPHERE - your bit tilts towards the sun

Sorry but it you ask a silly question you better expect a silly answer

Then why were you suggesting that we compare temperature data from different hemispheres?

You DO realise don't you that December here is height of our summer? Also there is the concept of GLOBAL - which means the entire world

Nuclear is not an option - because we do not have the infrastructure for nuclear. We would have to import everything from the entire buildings to the expertise to run the bloody thing. We have ONE repeat ONE nuclear reactor - Lucas Heights in Sydney and it is not a power generator it manufactures medical implants.

Nuclear is bloody expensive to build meanwhile we are taking advantage of Elon Mush's boast that if he could not build the back up battery we need in 100 days we get it free

    Bit of a win/win for us:p

    Remember 3 Mile Island. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Mile_Island_accident
    Yes We Have!

And here is a list of others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_reactor_accidents_in_the_United_States

The accidents may be few but the consequences are just too big.
I value my DNA not being damaged by radiation, do you?
Trick question on Radiologist License Exam.
The Safe dose of radiation is. . . . Correct answer is "zero".
Natural radiation is much lower than the products of Nuclear reactor accidents.

3 mile island was a nothing burger. It is often used by nuclear detractors, but the truth is nobody got injured.

We are 100 percent exposed to radiation unless you refuse to go outside.

Actually a good idea is to simply make reactor housings safer.

Fukushima was not a nuclear failure, it was a disaster due to a Tsunami.

Not sure but the accident happened in 1979 and the plant is still to this day, operating.

Though PA hands to renewables all sorts of subsidies, they refuse to do it for 3 mile Island though it operates well, safely and employs some 675 workers. The whack jobs are driving nuclear out of business due to subsidies paid to others, such as windmills.

The problem with radiation is that it may take years for health problems to show themselves. And you may never know when a natural disaster may strike....like what happened in Japan. Nuclear plants may also suffer from terror attacks. Considering the long term effects of radiation it could be very risky. Natural gas is much safer and we haven't had a solar or wind meltdown or leak ever.

Oil companies also get subsidies. And three mile island is closing in 2019. Did they really get there monies worth from that plant? Especially since they want a government bailout.

There has been so much good news about Nuclear power plants, it is amazing Americans and now some Australians never knew of this.

First in the USA. The number of major setbacks for Nuclear is at 3 mile island. The alarmists would have you think the plant quit operation. But it operates. I myself have been close to the nuclear plant and doubt I will suffer at all. I have yet to hear of even one victim.

But the good news comes to us mostly from France. They thrive using nuclear. It puzzles me so often I read not much more than fear from those who never were harmed by nuclear power.

Actually, oil firms get zero subsidies unless they are also in the business of alcohol fuels. 3 mile is no less deserving of subsidies than are the solar or wind mill farms. I prefer nuclear in fact. CA once was so modern we used nuclear plants. Democrats out here want them destroyed. No reason for it, just want them gone.
