No, I think the point of yet another "Let's Bash The Poor So We Feel Better About Ourselves" thread is to bash the poor because it's easier than bashing The Wealthy who are scum.

So again...if you want to bash the wealthy, feel free to start another thread.

Why chase cents when you can chase dollars? Tax reform is where we should start. We subsidize marriage, kids, mortgages, healthcare, autos, daily business, bankrupt businesses, et al.

So it would be okay with you for people to be dying in our streets from starvation and exposure.

Okay...you are free to feel that way. I understand.

I just hope I never become so sub-human that I feel that way myself.

We need Moral Reform. After that, we need to reform:

    - Ethics
    - Integrity
    - Character
    - Principles
    - Priorities

Reform those things and discussions about Welfare will take care of themselves auto-magically and without even trying hard.

As a natural bi-product of reforming those things, Welfare disappears and gets replaced by Workfair. Not Workfare. Let it sink in for a while. You'll get it. The structure of the Economy and the structure of the Family causes Welfare. However, if the Family Structure were purified in this country, the Economic Structure would self-correct without much effort and as a natural bi-product.

Dabbling at effect will guarantee that cause is never addressed and that problems are always perpetuated.

I think we can devise a system where EVERYONE is guaranteed the necessities of life (plus a few extras) without all that other nonsense, Roo.

I understand that for some...the thought of eliminating poverty and want is unappealing.

It would be their choice so if that's what someone wants to do then I can't force them to be different.

They have the choice of working and creating a life or being lazy and tossing it away, it has nothing to do with me.

And people don't die in America from starvation.

Only six did during the great depression and those were due to external circumstances such as being trapped or simply refusing to eat.

But...if we did what you suggest and people started dying of exposure and starvation...

...YOU would be okay with that.

    Interesting.

As I said, though, that is your right.

Don't take this the wrong way, Spooky, but I just hope I never become so sub-human that I feel that way myself.

If that is their choice, like suicide, there is nothing we can do to prevent it.

If they want help there will always be means to get it.

If you are about to freeze to death why don't you pop into an emergency room?

Need food, stop by a church and ask someone for some.

Now you are just being silly.

The ER isn’t supposed to be for homeless people to hang out to warm up. Talk about being silly.

If they are freezing to death yes it is.

But there are also shelters...the point is that we have never had a problem with people freezing to death or starvation even before we had any type of welfare.

    Its a dumb argument.

If you’re actually freezing to death you wouldn’t be able to get yourself to an ER.

It's like the stupid argument that if we remove Roe v. Wade that women will be having back alley abortions.

    That never happened either.

When abortion wasn't federally protected most states outlawed it but NY didn't and all the women who felt they needed one simply traveled there.

Quite a lot of women actually.

When we remove Roe v. Wade I am sure there will still be a couple of states that allow it.

Well if a person is too stupid to realize they are about to freeze to death then we should probably let them die anyways.

"wow, I'm really cold and probably will freeze to death in another hour or so. I could stop this car and ask them to call an ambulance but naw, I'll make it".

    lol

Just being cold doesn’t mean you’ll freeze to death. My lord.
The point is we shouldn’t be clogging up ER with people who need to warm up.

Tell me this, are the homeless clogging up ER's now?

Are they freezing to death currently?

Whatever they are doing is what other homeless will do.

No backtracking required, it's just a fact.

If there currently isn't the problem you are worried about then why do you imagine there will be in the future?

    Embarrassing you is not backtracking.

You are backtracking. You came up with the idea homeless people should use the ER to warm up but now you’re saying there’s no need for homeless people to go to the ER to warm up. Hahaha...that’s called backtracking.

I just want to say that in places like New York there are warm up shelters in winter and cooling centers in summer. So people can warm up and cool down.

It is not a dumb argument.

Your willingness to assign people to a miserable existence when it can EASILY be handled with more humanity is dumb.

Why is it my fault they have a miserable existence?

    That is their choice.

It's not responsibility to babysit them.
