If a democrat says "I think we need universal background checks to ensure that guns being sold by privte owners are not being sold to criminals and the mentally unstable" or "I think we need to ban machine guns and full auto rifles, which have no legitimate purpose in the hands of civilians" , the far right accuses them of wanting to "take their guns"

Any and all calls for sensible gun regulations are considered gun grabs by the right. They oppose all regulations at all. They think people should be allowed to carry rocket launchers if they want.
