    Not every Western European country had an empire, but then, many did.
    What is your country today?
    What empire did it/does it have?
    On what terms is your country with its colonies?

    Me, I'm British from London, England.
    Countries who's gained independence either by fighting (USA, India) or granted it when it was asked and they decided to become Independent (the rest of them excluding Gibraltar, The Falklands and Hong Kong which was on a lease and they didn't much care for PRC (People's Republic of China).
    For it, we have Indian food and in my neighbourhood, a lot of Jamaican food - everywhere I've been in the world's had Chinese food.
    As a country, Britain loves America.
    It just is.

    Ireland... (Republic of Ireland) used to be my country;
    and my country apparently used to be called United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland 'I did not know that' - but it makes sense, since today my country is called United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 'this I knew'..
    My mind is blown that ROI used to be UK but, now the world makes a little more sense, with their pre Euro currency, their green post boxes that were once painted UK red, it all makes sense, and they drive on the same side of the road as us and speak English... - It all makes sense 'now'. - They used to be UK! (wow)!

    What about you and your country and its former/current colonies?
