    Cool.

I met Johnny in Dillingham, Alaska back in 1986. We had just flown out of Nushegak on a bush plane and when we got to Dillingham the ancient DC-3 we were supposed to fly into Anchorage had broken down so we caught a ride on Cash's plane. He had just flown in from Clark's Point, which is in the middle of nowhere along the west coast of AK...

I have no idea what he was doing out there in such a remote area - it literally is the last place on Earth I would expect to run into a celebrity. Anyhow, when we found out Johnny was in the back of the plane a lot of people freaked out and had to go meet him, but he was really kind and gracious with everyone.

Humbling to think about all of the music that Johnny and Luther Perkins got out of it.

LMAO - Before I got old my wife got me into jazz. She's a huge Pat Metheny fan - I think we've been to three of his concerts and they were all great shows. Now he's my favorite jazz guitarist.

Strangely enough, a buddy of mine exposed me to Metheny back in the early '80s when I was in high school. Rock-Jazz Fusion was kinda big back then and Metheny was starting to rise to the top of the Jazz charts at the time. Even then I liked his stuff because it was new and original. That was my introduction to jazz. Later on I started getting into full-on jazz, especially all the great stuff that had come out during the 50s and 60s (what I consider the golden age of jazz).

Since I'm blabbering about Pat and it was 100 degrees in my neck of the woods this past weekend I guess I'll post this tune - there's some nice guitar work throughout the song:

We have a ritual of playing this album whenever we drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. It always brings back great memories...

I can't see the picture but I know what guitar you're talking about. Those old single-pickup Fenders look weird compared to the multi-pickup Strats, etc., that are common today.

Its great stuff, complex but can also be simple at the same time. Much more meat to it compared to the pop music out there.

They are stripped down music machines. And in the hands of someone like Cash prove its the indian not the arrow.

BTW, in the mid 80's Cash was performing with The Highwaymen. Great music.

That's for sure. Metheny doesn't really show off his technical prowess in "Spring Ain't Here", but it's a nice song. What really makes that group work is the collaboration between Metheney and his keyboardist Lyle Mays. In many of their tunes Mays does more to create the ambience in the song than Metheny does.

I think the first song I can remember hearing from the Pat Metheny Group was the one posted below (the album came out 35 years ago - lol, I am getting old). NPR used to use it as the theme music for its Friday night jazz show, so it's the one PMG song that a lot of people have heard:
