Just try to imagine that some states or groups of American states will break away and become independent...There is the United States map has long entered in the free market, on which instead of the traditional 50 states across the country have identified a number of new independent states: California states, Central North American Republic, Atlantic America and the Republic of Texas.
One of the largest and most economically developed states - Texas, - most is subject of this separation. There is no economic problems in oiled Texas (almost no problems). They pay the highest taxes. And Texas feeds almost all of America. And the current mess at the border adds fuel to the fire...
Another state, which, according to experts, may leave the United States, it is sunny California. They are also sufficiently economically independent. After all, they are the concentration of high technologies. And Alaska. This state is far away from the country. And Alaska may to join Canada. Or even go back to Russia...for example...
What would happen, if this scenario came true?

I would move to Texas. Would be 'interesting' to see where the welfare recipients congregate.

Oh, wait....you didn't mean THAT "American Pie". Sorry.

If Texas seceded...it would collapse rather fast. Arab oil countries could manipulate the price of oil to "undercut" Texas' prices and its tax revenues would dry up and shortly after that, employment in the oil industry would follow.

Any manufacturing in Texas could be undercut by the Chinese.

It would then face trying to re-build itself...pay for tons of infrastructure on its own (No US Dept. of Transportation).....and guard its Southern Border as well without Federal help.

So you'd be left with a Lone Star State with massive unemployment....and without US military protection (the fact that ALL THE REST OF US are ponying up to protect ANY state from invasion).......available for foreign intervention or even invasion (Given no reason for the United States to ally with seditious cowboys)

With nothing but oil...and cattle...and a collapsed manufacturing base...it would BEG the United States to re-join the Union.

So go head Cowboys......TRY to secede....we won't make you grovel TOO much when you come crawling back.

It won't. We have a precedent for not allowing seccession. It occurred about 150 years ago.

Also which experts claim California may leave the United States?

    It would be like this...

    Bye bye miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye

Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I day

    No joke intended.

Sometimes a song has lyrics that truly are prophetic and fit the subject of the thread beautifully.

The former states of America would soon become relatively irrelevant in the World.

No longer able to compete with China in anyway, constantly involved with border wars with each other, and implementing heavy tariff's against each other.

Alaska would quickly become a pawn of Russia, with Alaskans benefitting from heady excitement of being part of one of the most corrupt nations in the world.
Canada would probably close its borders to keep out the American refugees.
Texas would actually have to face up to the fact that a large part of its economy is dependent on cheap illegal labor.

And everyone would be dealing with the nasty aftermath of the horrendous civil war.
