I mean like big storms but also air masses? Warm and Cold Fronts not just Hurricanes and tornadoes

How would they act? How would they manifest this life? WOULD they act? Would we know they were alive?

I know very well this is completely and utterly impossible on so MANY levels. I just want to bat the idea around a little. See if it's a little entertaining as well as monstrously silly.

    Sorry.

From the world of UFO reports comes an interesting story related to your question. In December of 1980 there was a now famous incident at Woodbridge Air Force base, in England. This base was run by US forces at the time.

Below is the official report filed by the deputy commander of this nuclear weapons base, Col Halt. There is also a link to the audio recording he made while the events took place.

I spent an hour talking with Col Halt on the phone, about ten years ago. He described the events he witnessed directly and filled in gaps in my understanding of the story. When I asked him what he believes he saw, something I had never heard him discuss, he said that he suspects he was seeing some form of life that we don't understand. He now seems convinced he saw an alien spacecraft; probably because the security personnel claimed to not only see a craft, but touched it, the previous night.

But back then, when asked to isolate what he saw from everything else said and consider only what he saw, he thought [his best guess] it was a form of earthly life. Fireballs or similar have been reported by pilots going back to WWII when they were called Foo Fighters. They and other fireball reports have them tracking and even interacting with the air crafts. For this reason they are dubbed UFOs which quickly translates as aliens. But I have long been intrigued by Halt's answer. If such earthly entities do exist, perhaps they have been mistaken for ball lightning as well.

Interesting. Rendlesham is about the closest I've yet seen to a really convincing sighting. There are others but Rendlesham is really unique.

Ball lightning is almost a well-known phenomenon by now. Lots on YouTube

Not what I was referring to but it might be relatable. Thankee

But we don't know what ball lightning is. Often, all we have are general descriptions and photos like this. Ball lightning? It might be that or something else entirely. Anything similar gets lumped in with ball lightning. But ball lightning presumably doesn't chase airplanes. And at a glance, it would seem that such critters are plasma, as is ball lightning. The point is, there is the idea that some kind of weather-like entity might exist. After all, ball lightning is a weather event. Maybe ball lightning does chase airplanes?

As for your question directly, when you say alive, do you mean conscious? I would say that most weather systems would act exactly as they do now, but they would think it was due to choice.

We cannot yet quantify consciousness so we have no way to determine if a non-interactive entity is conscious or not.

It is fun to realize that the internet may be conscious. It may even think it has its own thoughts and will, when in fact it is really just us. And we would have no way to know.

I mean alive, but probably conscious too

I'm quite sure the Internet is a living thing. Hell, I think my own computer is a living thing, surely all of them put together have some sort of thoughts of their own.

If they were alive, the govt would be trying to figure out how to kill them.

You forgot "tax them to death....THEN kill them...

I have had ball lightning come into my house and kill a desktop. Lightning has also killed two routers. All in 3 years.

    Ask @Well Bonded
Lightning here in SW Florida, is a Mo Fo! 80 strikes in a half hour, is not unusual.

Are you kidding, they'd be the most protected species of all time. Though I have no doubt Eric would want Daddy to give him a Bofors gun so he could bag one.

I've read that Florida is lightning Capital USA

I talked to a lady who came from this area. She said that some of the natives worshiped lightning there
