I found this article both funny and sad. IMO schools should all be teaching the Constitution as it sure seems many know very little about it.

Liberal groups angry with SC pols over order to teach Constitution

Personally, I would have expected students to learn about both gays and the Constitution before they get to college. Sadly, if the liberals have any say, they won't learn about the Constitution ever.

My children had read and discussed the Constitution long before they left high school and they knew and understood about gays before they got to high school.

Besides a brief portion for social studies and sexual education, homosexuality should be a minor footnote on the school curriculum. Science, history, math, programming, physical education...done. If you want to dig deeper you have your parents and the internet. Its absurd to spend any significant amnt of time dwelling on homosexuality. Its frankly NOT important at all in the learning process, business, or grand scheme of anything

Why should students learn about gays on my dime? This is similar to learning about preferred positions in heterosexual encounters. Go learn it from parents if they are so inclined. Besides, WHAT is it that there is to learn about gays and others? What particular point should schools make concerning gays?

Cursive writing is gone but gay education is in.

No doubt hand printing, reading, and arithmetic will go overboard next to make time for AGW and gun confiscation brainwashing.

Such are our unionized government-run public schools. Sending your kid to such schools is child abuse.

To tolerate them. And that orgies with your football teammates in locker rooms are morally correct.

I believe ALL ideology should be kept out of schools and left to the parent. I also mean religious, political, or other.

The ONLY purpose to putting ideology into schools is to indoctrinate the children to one specific ideology.

And I, for one, believe that it is wrong to impose ones morality. You see, it's imposing ones morality that has caused all forms of human atrocities in history. Such as America's slavery, and the war of genocide against the native peoples.

To me, schools should be about teaching children job skills and how to become a productive member of society based on their individual interests and strengths, not forced into cookie cutter molds.

You see, our children in public schools are a captive audience, and that's what makes them popular targets for these people.

Alas, it seems that I am the only one who believes that way. Everybody else wants to teach the kids the one true way of... whatever.

My children learned about gays from me before they got to high school. Liberals, though, can't learn to masturbate without a class in school so what are you going to do?

You are the only way who thinks this way. That is because you are a prophet, or messenger of truth and reason.

I am going to overthrow the government and instruct everyone to abide by your line of reasoning. Its the only rational choice.

Okay. Learning about gays at high school age is appropriate although any mention of sex, sexual preferences or sexual orientation for elementary age kids or even under high school seems a little pushy to me. Do kids NEED to know about gays and lesbians? Other than what parts go where.

We can't do both?? Aren't GAY rights and women's rights and CIVIL RIGHTS intrinsic to the CONSTITUTION. (Or at least the one that includes all THE people-- not the one just for white male property owners).

School should only be teaching languages, history, science, mathematics, government, law and other actual disciplines. Gay studies is not a discipline anymore than women's studies is. If they want to learn more about gay culture then they can take classes in college. There is ZERO reason to teach this in high school.

College students are children and cannot be allowed to read freely????

    ...........

The College of Charleston’s program selects one book a year for the entire campus to read, which this year was Alison Bechdel's “Fun Home,” a memoir about the author growing up as a lesbian in rural Pennsylvania. USC-Upstate’s program has first-year writing students all read the same book, which this year was “Out Loud: The Best of Rainbow Radio,” a compilation of stories shared on South Carolina’s first radio station for gays and lesbians.

Republican state Rep. Garry Smith, who introduced the cuts in the House, told FoxNews.com in March he received complaints from constituents who have children at both schools. He said when they or their students objected to the books' content, they were told they could not read an alternative book.

    What idiocy...

Reading one book about growing up gay in rural Pennsylvania does NOT prevent the C of C teaching about the US Constitution.

The answer here is quit the hysterics and get a life.

No, because there are no "rights" which attend perversion, sexual or otherwise, which are not inimical to the objectives enumerated in the Preamble. You're welcome.

    The Constitution. End of story.

If the books have any relevance or significance other than being gay-themed, the students are of an appropriate age (Unsure what that would be) and the book is not extraordinarily obscene, I would not oppose them, however the Constitution should always be viewed as infinitely more important than any book, and rightfully so.

Gayness is The Thing, and it is trendy. If you do not do lunches, do not have your coffee in Starbucks, if you do not promote and defend gayness, you're not fashionable, you're not "in". You do not understand.

Well, how else will they recruit more people into the homosexual lifestyle unless they start as early as possible? It's not like they are born gay.
