Coolidge's policies on race, public transportation, general welfare, along with the issues you mentioned, were progressive for the 1920s compared to those of Harding and Hoover.

I can only imagine what the modest, competent, man of integrity would have thought of his Party's petty, vulgar loudmouth successor.

Hoover has been called a “mini Roosevelt.” His programs to beat the Great Depression were similar to Roosevelt’s, only way smaller.

People love to dump on Hoover, but he was a great man in the wrong place. He was a great engineer, but his reserved, somewhat sour looking demeanor was the opposite of Roosevelt’s optimistic glow.

In view of the fact that the Depression started in October 1929, Hoover had only been office for six months when it hit. He was not responsible for people getting into too much debt or inflating the stock market with excessive leverage (borrowing). How do you stop people from borrowing too much? We don’t have answers to this day.

Harding was in the wrong place, and he knew it early on. You can’t say that for losers like Carter and Biden. Give Harding credit though. He had the guts to go to Alabama during the Jim Crow days and tell them he looked forward to the time when the races were equal.

Harding was corrupt. Coolidge put a lot of effort cleaning up after him.

Before his presidency, Hoover excelled in the relief he delivered to Europe. and is still honored there, if not here.

How typical of Republicans to totally ignore such historic details as the entire Civil War.

I thought Shaw to be, as a politician, a passable playwright

Republican Swamp Lake's new toxic crush isssssssss

'Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has declared Hungary's prime minister Viktor Orbán "an equal" to former president Donald Trump.

    snip:

'Alongside a selfie with the Hungarian prime minister, Lake wrote that Orbán "is a strong leader--the GREATEST in Europe. That's why the media attacks him relentlessly.

"He is an equal to President Trump. His policies have made Hungary Great—now he must work to ward off of WWIII. He puts his people first. We need every nation to do the same."

' A Stain Not Easily Removed'

'Something has gone tragically wrong in the GOP and in the legal profession. At this pace, CPAC will need to hold its next convention in a prison yard.'

    By Marc Elias
    August 24, 2023

'Republican lawyers are back in the news and are bringing disgrace to the party and profession. Even before the indictments in Georgia, it had been widely reported that at least five, and perhaps all six, of former President Donald Trump’s co-conspirators were Republican lawyers. Now in Georgia, we add several lawyers, some familiar and some new, to the list of Trump’s co-defendants.

The one common theme in each of Trump’s indictments is the central role that lawyers play in facilitating, excusing or covering up his malfeasance. They are his enablers, co-conspirators and now co-defendants.

Something has gone tragically wrong in the GOP and in the legal profession. At this pace, CPAC will need to hold its next convention in a prison yard. The Federalist Society may soon have to create a category of membership for the disbarred and criminally convicted.

You might think that the Republican establishment would recoil from these disgraced lawyers, but you would be wrong. As the Washington Post recently reported, “After trying to use the Justice Department to delegitimize the 2020 vote,” one of the co-conspirators in the federal case and co-defendant in Georgia, Jeffrey Clark, “has become a rising legal star for Republicans.”

Worse still, the Colorado Republican Party recently hired another indicted co-conspirator, John Eastman'

A refund to the exorcist is in store.
Matt Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes. two “evict satanic spirits” remain.

'CPAC Got an Actual Priest to Perform an Exorcism After Low-Level Employees Quit Over Pay'

'After a group of employees resigned en masse from the American Conservative Union—which organizes the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)—in spring 2022, its chairman Matt Schlapp, and his wife, Mercedes, reportedly felt there was only one thing that could cure the space of the bad resignation vibes: An unsanctioned exorcism.

The pair brought in a priest to “evict satanic spirits” from the group’s Virginia offices, according to a new report from the Daily Beast. And why did so many junior employees suddenly quit?

“Everyone disrespects what the Schlapps did to them. They left because they couldn’t get money,” a source said. “Matt has said, ‘Everyone is disposable,’ and says that they can always find someone else to do the job for that much.” Color me shocked.

An anonymous source told the Daily Beast that the exorcism was “the weirdest thing I’d seen,” while another could barely process what was taking place: “I had no idea what was going on.”

The history of the center-right in American politics has been the rise, fall and birth of successive parties.
    Thus: Federalists -> Whigs -> Free Soilers -> Republicans -> ?

'What to watch for in Tuesday’s elections'

'Abortion rights are on the ballot Tuesday as Americans head to the polls for state and local races that will set the stage for next year’s presidential election.

Fiercely fought contests in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio could offer a 2024 roadmap for both parties.

Democrats have largely succeeded in running on the issue in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision last year to overturn Roe v. Wade, which effectively punted abortion law to the states. For the most part, they have done so by framing the debate as one of personal freedom – and leaving Republicans to haggle over the politically painful particulars.

A victory for abortion rights advocates in Ohio – where voters could enshrine a constitutional amendment protecting abortion access – along with success in high-stakes races for governor, the state Supreme Court and control of the state legislature in other states, could further demonstrate the potency of the issue.'

    'Can Youngkin turn Virginia red?'

'All 140 seats in the state’s Senate and House of Delegates are being contested in Virginia’s legislative elections Tuesday, but the biggest name in the race is one that won’t appear on the ballot.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has pulled out all the stops to help Republicans flip control of the Senate, where Democrats hold a narrow majority, and hold on to the House of Delegates, where Republicans hold a similar advantage. He endorsed in key primaries, launched a bus tour to promote early voting and raised a stunning $18.7 million through his leadership PAC, Spirit of Virginia, thanks in large part to speculation that he could launch a last-minute entry into the Republican presidential primary if he has a good Tuesday.'
