I live in London, England, UK, and we get 4 seasons; we just last weekend adjusted for DST so Spring has officially arrived for me. I've lived here all my life and haven't really been anywhere with a different set of seasons yet. I've been to a country in November where the season had a different name to the one I grew up with. Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter - 3 months of each I believe (unless you're in Scotland, then it's like 1 day of Summer; I kid! I haven't been to Scotland yet but that's just a stereotype of the place I've heard). There are places that have other seasons I don't have here, there are places that have these seasons but call Autumn another name when speaking my language (they call it Fall)... What seasons do you get? What seasons did you grow up with? Have you ever relocated from one part of the world to another and change your climate/seasons? Do you miss a season you don't get in this move? Do you like a season you didn't have before this move? What are the seasons, in your life?
I like it when it's unseasonably hot. Like North America, we have our own Indian Summers too in Europe in the cold months sometimes, but our heat comes from the Sahara, not the Caribbean; I remember having a couple of those here; hot air coming in from the Sahara. Sometimes we get dust come in from the Sahara and it's on all the cars and things.
There was big wild fire in Portugal in the Iberian Peninsular in Europe that turned the skies of Croydon, England, UK up in the British Isles in Europe, orange - That was a first for me. It honestly reminded me of that movie Beetlejuice ( 1988 ) , but in Croydon. https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/news/croydon-news/your-pictures-croydon-sky-went-637434 (I was studying business studies in Central Croydon that day). It's what I assume the planet Mars' sky looks like, and because of that day and looking up, I'd always have a rough idea of what that might look like, that was another surreal moment that day; likening it a Doctor Who situation where Croydon was teleported to Mars.
I started life in the rust belt of America, Detroit. Thankfully because my wife and I didn't like having a boat in the cradle 6 months of the year we moved to San Diego in 1976. I've never shoveled snow again. We now are settled in Tucson. I've seen the snow dust the earth a few times but when that happened you could usually be on the golf course by noon.
I grew up with seasons, but I've lived in places over the years that don't. Or they don't 'present' as being different seasons. And I can tell you I miss them very much. Slight changes in temperature in those places are what passes for season change, and it just isn't enough for me. I like four distinct seasons and all the foods and activities that go with them.
Michigan has four marvelous seasons. Each one has its own charms and wonders. Right now Fall offers a spectacular variety of colors in the trees, cooler temperatures are fantastic for being outside in the splendor. Winter is right around the corner, we have snow forecast early next week. At my home in northern Michigan We are in the snow belt it will snow so long and hard that if you be real quite and still you can be hypnotized by the beautiful sound of the snow falling. Want to try something really fun? Try riding my snowmobiles along Lake Superior in January in -10 degree weather. Man, guaranteed you will feel alive.the rush is incredible. Even the filth and disgust of the city of Detroit will get covered in a blanket of white. Plus the gang bangers are inside and not out robbing and killing in the streets. Another big plus that will become real clear in the next few years is having the majority of the worlds fresh water supply. No water rationing here! Even in the grips of a summer heat wave, all the fresh water you could ever drink.
In Germany we have the usual 4 season. And then there is also a 5th season. It is called: "Carnival!"
I grew up with four seasons. Now I get two; ridiculously hot and humid, and not so hot and humid. In Chicago, there is a joke about there being two seasons; winter and road construction.
We used to have four seasons in Colorado, but we've been in-and-out of drought for the past 21 years... mostly in drought, and this year, 2021 has been horrible! All summer long we had wildfire smoke and haze from all over the state, and from other western states as well. Then, at the end of July, it simply stopped raining! And, with the arrival of winter, we in the Denver-Colorado Springs 'corridor' thought we'd get our usual snowfall... WRONG! Just yesterday, the most destructive fire in Colorado history wiped out what is now estimated to be at least 1,000 homes in the communities of Louisville and Superior, along with at least one entire shopping center. All because of astonishingly high winds (in some places over 100 mph, or 160 kph), along with extreme drought. The wind blew down electrical power lines, and that started the fires -- probably much as happened in Northern California last year and this year, too. I'm beginning to understand why older people (yeah, I'm a 'senior citizen', too) say, "Screw it!", and move to Florida, Arizona, and the Hill Country of Texas. Colorado used to be beautiful, and, we used to have four (FOUR) seasons as I said before -- but no longer.... Anymore, it's like living in the fugging GOBI DESERT! . "Traded in my snowboard on one of these things...."
Summer and hot as hell. Winter consist of a couple of cold days that last unit noon... ah.. and we do have "rainy" season, when all the rain for the year pours down (in buckets!) for a few hours sometime in July, August or Sept
