Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of Jan 6th, a date that will go down in infamy. Regardless of where you stand on the coup attempt (can't call it a riot when it's a riot during an exchange of power), I want to know, where were you on that day? What were you doing when you first heard of the events there? What did you do? What was going through your head?

    I'll start.

I knew there was going to be violence that day. I was going into Jan 6th knowing that there would be violence because of the previous threats made by Trump and others. I figured we would see street clashes, nothing too fatal overall. I wasn't listening to the news as my nephew was over and I was playing with him. By about 1 I had to leave to go to the car mechanic to drop off my dad's car. He told me something was going down at the capital and I should listen to the radio. So on the ride over I did. It was horrifying. Listening to the violence unfold. When I got back, I told my mom we needed to prepare for the worst case scenario. And I kept listening to the radio. My nephew started to play next to me and I hugged him, scared that it would be the last time I ever got to hug him. After he went to bed my mom and I listened to the vote certification. And all I could do is think how stupid and wrong I was for being that naive. I should have known better and I didn't.

I was home watching a peaceful Republican demonstration at the capital turned upside down by antifa insurrectionists

It's a bit different when you're on the other side of the rock. Can't remember my exact day but I was scrolling the news all day at work.

Maybe he’s too traumatized to remember. It’s pretty strange watching republicans do this sort of thing after seeing liberal violent riots almost daily
It was probably like watching a Nun do kung fu
Just not something you would expect to see

I wasn't doing anything of note other than working, so I don't have some great story to go with it unfortunately.

One of my first cousins died of COVID on January 2, 2021 last year and his mom died two weeks later.

At that time, I grieving the loss of my cousin (he was only 44 or 45) and I had some nagging concerns about Trump's agenda because he is not really keen on thinking things through. I thought there might be some activity at the Capitol but I certainly never imagined what actually happened. I was thinking it would be more like people holding signs and such.

One thing that stood out the most to me was then-POTUS Trump stalling on Pence's and Pelosi's request to get enforcements in place. I didn't have an opinion of him when I joined pf last year, then I developed the opinion that he was a professional conman and on January 6, 2021, I had to revise that to him just being pure evil. Not only did he NOT engage back-up, he and Giuliani used the melee to get to Senator Lee to implore him to stop the certification. He wasn't the least bit concerned about Pence's safety or the law enforcement officers being attacked by the angry mob and, to date, the penultimate of what he caused, he still has not acknowledged them. That's on par with his earlier comments about our military but it does sting even when one expects it.

And, while I don't condone violence, I find myself actually feeling sorry for the rioters sitting in prison or about to be there. No, I'm not cool with what they did but I understand why they did it and it makes me very sad for them because the man they trusted not only manipulated them into committing those crimes, he turned his back on them. I have never committed a crime and I'm not inclined to commit one unless somebody hurts my children. So, not only can't I conceptualize how he spoon-fed his supporters a lie about Pence's formal duty to certify the election results, he stood by for hours doing nothing to help the bring some order to what was happening. For me, that's unforgivable. I'm not even asking that he care about anybody but his party, but those rioters, presumably voters, were on his side. Pence has always been on his side and did his duty to the best of his ability in spite of the chaos Trump creates wherever he goes. Those riots are going to have convictions on their records for the rest of their of lives and they did it for nothing. Trump doesn't do loyalty. He doesn't do fair. He doesn't moral. He doesn't do ethics and, sadly, they learned that a little too late.

Please don't attack others in this thread. The point is to tell each other how we saw that day. Regardless of our own beliefs on the subject.

I was at a meditation retreat at the time. I couldn't help but be sucked into the news and was intermittently checking my phone while meditating. I distinctly remember looking forward to sharing the news with my colleagues once they finished their meditation.

I was working from home as most people did that day, so I saw it evolve from Trump's speech into the march to the Capitol. The part that really infuriated me was when Trump said he would walk to the Capitol with them -- and then did NOT!

I wasn't surprised by the whole event, but that moment right there spelled it perfectly clear to me what sort of dictator fantasy that piece of feces holds in his head. What is even more surprising is the degree of abject apathy and lying his followers continue through to this day in his name. But the armchair warriors who still support him are too damn stupid to even reflect for a moment how badly the Orange one betrayed them. Suckers love to be suckered, I guess. I see the proof every day here on PF and across the nation.

The pandemic, the inflation, the way the world views us...all of it is a direct result of the mentality that Trump has instilled in his followers. These are the sort of folk who to one degree or another could not get out of a wet paper bag if their lives depended on it. Now Covid is feeding off these people's poor choices for following the mythos of the Orange conman, and dragging down the rest of us. They are oblivious to the fact that THEY ARE THE MINORITY. Already, for those who actually listened to the conman and participated in the insurrection and are facing felony charges know what a seriously bad mistake they made and will now have to pay the price for the rest of their lives. You would think their warnings would be heeded by other Trump fans, but no, suckers love to be suckered.

I'm not entirely sure they are even aware they are being manipulated. Of course, the people sitting or about to be sitting in prison had an "Ice Bucket Challenge" when they had to accept their loyalty to their leader was one-sided.

The psychology behind this is simple. People seek out other people that think the way they do and they validate each other so it's easier to believe they are "right" because so many others hold those same opinions. Trump is an excellent con man because all he had to do was tell them what they want to hear and they aren't concerned with him backing up his statements.

Oh my God the drama..... Normally when you hear people say where were you that day you think of a very historical event such as the day Kennedy was shot or the day we landed on the moon or the day a bunch of Muslims flew airplanes into the world trade center and killed 3,000 Americans.

Where the hell were you guys the last 4 years when a fake Russia collusion hoax was used to impeach a president on the flimsiest of pretext.... Where were you the day that elected Democrats discussed the faithless electoral strategy to try to take the election away from Trump because their girl lost?

But you probably don't remember that day because it's gone down the memory hole

being Semi -retired I was home and channel surfing that day....

I watched and saw the event unfold on several different TV stations...

I made a few calls to friends and told them to turn on the TV

the talk on my phone calls went something like this

"These trumpers have went nuckin futs"

as horrible as it was that day, I was only slightly suprised

what surprised me way more was when I read and heard the defenders of the insurrection

the next day senators like McConnel , Graham and even McCarthy all said it was a tragedy and trump was responsible

all 3 spoke from the floor and said trump was responsible

then the news started changing and began making excuses for trump...

the talking heads on news channels began saying the mob were tourists just checking out the capiltol

then the GOP started making excuses for trump and the insurrection

light in the loafers Lyndsy Graham began kissing trumps ass and playing golf with trump

so did Mcarthy and almost every of GOP politican that wanted trrumps power or endorsement

they all made a 180 degree turn on the rhetoric

Mitch McConnell said if trump ran again he would support him

one thing the entire ordeal proved to me and the rest of the Nation

The GOP has NO SHAME in their game

below is a reminder of the day

Make sure you post regularly on here so we have a dead man's switch if you get imprisoned without a trial for over a year.
