This is a general question. Is there one nation that seems to have more romance than others? Anyone can respond but I would mostly like to hear from women and people who have traveled a lot.
I think it might be the Brazilians or the Italians ps. I'll just add, when women talk about romance it has more to do with sensuality than appearance or simply what is being said.
OK... HA... Oh I forgot individualism doesn't exist.... I also suppose traits are only OK when they're not negative? I thought generalizing was a "bad" thing.
My experience in Italy in regards to their treatment of women was less than impressive. I should qualify this, in Rome anyway. Street harassment is how some men exert male dominance and it was very prevalent in Rome, Italy. I'm sure this sort of thing happens all over, but I was appalled at how some Italian men were verbally harassing women doing nothing more than walking down the street minding their own business. If this is "romantic" well I'm guessing these gals weren't impressed. A few of these women getting harassed were clearly minors.
I would hesitate to condemn an entire nation of men for the actions of some, however I am aware of the problems in Italy unaccompanied women have. I do not associate this with romance and really don't know anyone who would.
I did say "some" Italian men. However I'm not going to back down from my comment. I've witnessed police officers...in uniform...catcalling young women on the streets of Rome. This indicates to me it's engrained in the culture itself. Now there may be differences in Northern Italy and Sourthern Italy in terms of the cultural acceptance of unsolicited comments, what I call street harassment, but when a police officer gets away with it,...well it tells me the culture itself tolerates this. I even witnessed a man grap a woman's hand, again unsolicited. I've been to some cities where a fashion model could walk down the street in a short skirt and experience no unsolicited comments at all. She may get glances, but no one is going to whistle, catcall or approach her in conversation. The same thing goes on in the streets of New York City and elsewhere and typically this sort of street harassment is a cultural thing. However when uniformed police officers are turning around to yell a comment and lady passerby, usually something suggestive about her appearance, you know it's culturally engrained.
