By Robert Laurie April 12, 2014 Last night, Hillary Clinton faced the ultimate test of any leaders mettle: the thrown shoe. Apparently, a woman managed to sneak past the ropes during Ms. Clintons appearance in Las Vegas Thursday. Once in the crowd, she hurled the offending footwear at the presumptive 2016 Democrat presidential nominee. Youll remember that, in 2008, the same thing happened to then President George W. Bush while he was holding a press conference in Baghdad. The question, of course, is who dodged it better? Lets go to the tape. First up, Mrs. Clinton: Not bad. She handles herself pretty well, but there are some problems. First of all, she doesnt know what was thrown. Wondering if the shoe was a bat? Sorry, but thats an amateur move. Points deducted. More importantly, she doesnt seem to realize that an object was headed her way until it was already past her noggin. If shed been facing a better pitcher, she would have been in trouble. Mrs. Clinton does recover fairly well, with a lame joke about solid waste management, but its not enough to undo the damage. Overall, we give Hillary a B-. Now lets take a look at President Bush: Wow! Now thats how its done! Well admit that the smaller room might make it easier to spot the shoe initially, but Bush comes away with big points for style, poise, grace and reaction time. Unlike Hillary, hes quick to recognize the threat. Plus, the shoe would have connected - right in the face - if the President wasnt so quick on the draw. This is clearly a solid A effort. So our winner is George W. Bush. Congratulations, Dubya. Well add artful shoe-dodging to the list of things we miss about you. Source: http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/62383 Somehow, this just didn't make the notoriety or merest mention in the Gov't controlled news media. Hmm..., I wonder why? Yet, I have to agree with the Bush's reaction time was much better.
A shoe isn't the only thing Dubya's dodged. Weaseling his way out prosecution for war crimes comes to mind.
Bush, since he actually dodged it. Hillary got lucky and the shoe didn't hit her. Trying do derail the thread, are we?
it's kind of hard to say he's dodged that, when the system hasn't even made an attempt to have him prosecuted for his war/human rights crimes
Bush wins. The lady missed Hillary and she reacted after it passed her head. Such hesitation won't work against big time protestors with better aim. - - - Updated - - - What war crimes?
However Bush's lack of anticipation of the second shoe was telling. A good leader not only needs to see things coming, but be able to predict when it might happen But all jokes aside I am glad there were no fatal consequences from either attack - glad we can laugh about it
Although the law has not been tested in these circumstances, there are some who think the president may have breached the Nuremberg Principles
Nonsense. Besides, the surest principle set at Nuremberg is that winners aren't tried for war crimes. Just captives. See many Brits and Aussies facing the court for their civilian bombing and war of attrition? I think you will find few wars fought with the level of professionalism as the war on terror. Surely no wars in the same scope. You realize this is a massive war across many countries with hundreds of thousands of combatants right?
He was ready for the second one. You don't want to duck or turn away and take your eye off the shoe. Of course.
It was more to do with the Iraq war. If the President had gone on trial there is no doubt in my mind both the British and Australian Prime Ministers would have faced charges for the same reason
The supreme principle of "international law" is "the only laws that matter are the one you can enforce."
She didn't even dodge it. She didn't react until the shoe had already missed her. G-Dub looked like he'd taken dodge ball lessons from Patches O'Houlihan.
Bush was the man! Oh my god, these liberals suck at dodging shoes. This is proof that republicans are so cool! I have heard silly partisan arguments before, but who dodges a shoe better may be the pinnacle. Let's address them. Bush was in a lit room. Clinton was on a lit stage where the audience was in the dark. I would imagine that makes the shoe flying at you a bit more difficult to see, but never let reality stand in the way of honoring Bush for something so (*)(*)(*)(*)ing important.
Agreed - I dont think ultimately the case would go far because the president did not usurp the US Constitution to declare war. As a thought bubble it is an interesting scenario to consider though - - - Updated - - - She didn't really have to - the shoe missed her by a long margine
Isn't the Hildabeast the one that claimed she was "dodging sniper fire" in Bosnia? Now it's more clear than ever that she was lying her wide ass off. She can't even dodge foot apparel. Pathetic!
Yes I agree it was a legal war dozens of nations joined and it was conducted with the utmost professionalism ever seen in the history of human conflict. The problem is war is a nasty business. Yes that is why bush wins here. But she beats Rick Santorum and mitt Romney's reactions to glitter bombs.
I have to give it a 'no contest'. Bush had a bit of a heads up when the thrower stood up and started yelling. He did however do a good job of dodging. Hillary on the other hand had no forewarning. Swish!!! right past her before she reacted. If blond wig lady had a bit more accuracy to her throw, Hillary would have been clocked.
