I dont think Hirohito really would make the list. He more rolled with the punches than set specific policy to kill people.

My personal choice for most evil is Joseph Gobbels. When he knew it was all over he killed his 5 daughters and younger son. I just can not wrap my head around the thought process that gets you to that point

I think he knew what would happen to them if the Russians got ahold of them. They raped nearly every woman in Germany. They are evil too, not just Stalin, but the whole red army and Russian people in general. Most of the evil people in Germany are at least dead and their progeny orphaned. He is up there, but Hitler and Stalin are worse.

According to theists, god isn't a person at all, so it can't be the most evil "person" that ever lived.

I'd nominate whoever the evil genius was that invented those wax paper cereal bags that I keep ripping which makes my cereal pour all over the place, including the bottom of the box.

Most evil? I don't know that we can determine that. We can safely determine that he who perpetrated the most evil acts was probably Stalin, maybe Pol Pot. But there's more to evil than a number. There's a qualitative assessment to evil that is rarely considered directly.

Consider this: Evil Man Alpha captures and executes ten people. All ten people are adults. Before executing them, he allows each of them to say a prayer to their deity. When executing them he gives them a choice of how they would like to be executed, all choices fairly quick and relatively painless. He then properly disposes of the bodies in marked graves.

Evil Man Beta captures and executes nine people. Some of them are children. He doesn't allow them any last prayers, and doesn't execute them humanely. Instead, he executes them in some of the most twisted manners that you can imagine, and then chops up their bodies and sticks them in separate dumpsters across the city. But he only executes nine people.

Can you really say that Evil Man Alpha is actually more evil than Beta because he killed more people?

numbers don't matter...after giving it some thought there are likely millions of equally evil b*****ds, serial killers who preyed on children, sexually assaulting and torturing them...like the hillside stranglers or clifford olsen, three of likely millions of sadistic child murderers over the centuries...

I voted other because I think eventually it becomes a silly question to answer.

When you compare the atrocities and genocide of people such as Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Mao and others, does it really matter which one gets the prize of MOST evil?

You could play the body count game and say Stalin massacred a few million more than Hitler did and Mao massacred many millions more than both. All of which is true. But when one is murdering millions does it really matter that one is worse than another?

I ask those questions because I have never really been able to answer them myself.

I notice that people get sick of hearing about genocide and as a result they stop listening to acounts of it. Notice how we are imbued with movies, books, museums and accounts of the Holocaust. Many wish to keep the memory of the holocaust alive to educate people in the hopes it will never happen again and that is commendable. However people then get tired of hearing about it and an unintended consequence is they pay little attention to other crimes such as the massive acts of genocide commited by communists.

In the end, I'm voting "other." I think anyone who has ever put a living thing, like a cat or an infant, in a microwave and killed it thus is as evil as any human can be.

I think one of the most evil people who ever lived was Martin Luther

He divided Christ's Church, just as the soldiers @ t he foot of the Cross divided Christ's seamless garment, only of course, Luther breaking w/ t he Church is far from what the soldiers did in gravity, in consequences

Lutheer only divided the Church because he was on a serious EGO trip and the Church would not change because of his new theology. He was an extremely immoral man, who dared to defy the Church Christ founded. That Church was then corrupt (and still is because it is made up of humans) but it was ONE... Now it is divided.

That said, i often think t hat God wanted there to be some kind of... church away from church, as it were. i say this becasue often the Protestants get things... shall we say... a little more right than the Catholics tend to.

But, you know... Jesus established ONE Church. The Catholics (I have noticed) more or less tend to accept the Protestants, but it seems most Protestants do not accept Catholics (as bieng Christian). I have often heard Protestants not just insinuate but SAY OUTRIGHT that Catholics are far from Christ and other such things. I have heard this

    how many times from Catholics?

    none

that i can recall, anyway... I have heard Catholics imply such, but never say it

there are people who would never kill a dog

and yet they would kill their unborn child, and encourage others in a bad situation to do the same (I know someone who kissed and hugged her dogs, yet aborted her child... i know there are millions of others)

R we to assume they never see this hypocricy within themselves?

well, thsoe would be the most blind and stupid people then...

It is very sad when people see so much murder they don't pay much attn to it anymore

    Roe v Wade

i think that has killed more innocent (totally innocent, of course) humans than Stalin & Hitler combined

but again... numbers... They can make you numb... can't comprehend such numbers (reminds me of the Debt, by the way...)

one human life destroyed is TOO MANY

I think of the saying... man's inhumanity to man

Why are people so cold, so evil, so uncaring, so lacking in empathy?

certainly shows how much we need Jesus

actually, while i have no animus against Mormons, they are way off in a lot of their beliefs. I think the more accurate thing to say is that they TRY to worship the same God the Christians (orthodox Christians) do

the Muslim religion evolved from the same religion the Christian religion evolved from, thus.. same God

both Christians and Muslims believe in the virgin birth of Jesus too...

when the angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him (God), whose name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (to God). He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?” He said, “So (it will be). God creates what He wills. If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Quran, 3:45-47)

In terms of the tonnage of people killed and/or wounded, the worst is Josef Stalin. The true horror is that a great many of these were his own people (not the enemies of Russia).... Hitler never killed millions of his own German and Austrian people.

I found it extremely difficult to answer this question because the first three you mentioned were so gruesomely evil. I did not even consider Genghis Khan because he was born well before the era that we call 'Civilised'. He ruled in era where cruelty was the norm.

I chose Pol Pot (by a very slim margin) because he murdered and tortured such a large proportion of his own people. But the effects on the world's population were far far worse in the case of Hitler and Stalin. And in Stalin's case, the torture and mayhem committed against his own people, and the population of Eastern Europe, continued for a much longer period.

I have changed my mind. Stalin was the worse and most mass murderer in modern history.

Ignorance is not realizing that neither Christians nor Mormons have any proof for their beliefs such that claiming "one side is way off" is an exercise in stupidity.

It is also an exercise in stupidity to claim that the single cell at conception is an "innocent human" when one has no proof that this claim is true.

High on the list of most evil would definitely be some of the Popes over the years who presided over torture and killing of millions in the name of God.
