The ALP is the oldest political party in Australia, they're not going anywhere.

Rudd did not go to the 2007 election promising to repeal the GST. If Abbott breaks his "promise in blood", that will be the end of him. He's unpopular, and he has no policies, opposition to the ETS is all that he is. If he can't deliver on it, after all the fuss he's made about it, he will be crucified by everyone including his own party and the far right.

Well that all depends on the voters, doesn't it?
No, I don't recall if he did or not, BUT Labor did.

    Gillard supported the "roll back"
Well you are assuming that he will be leading the party into the next election. Unlike Labor, The coalition has a couple of viable options for leader. If he is not leading them, he can not uphold his "promise in blood" can he? And I suspect, he won't, even if he is leader.

    Obviously.

Not in 2007 when they won the election they didn't.

Abbott will lead the Coalition to the next election, yes. It'd be lovely if Turnbull took over, but it's not going happen. They don't have anyone other than Turnbull.

    True

That is to say Turnbull is the only candidate in your opinion. They do have several others, little known, but still time to groom as they are half way there. They have not been so insular with their members as Labor.

They have no one who could take leadership before the next election with a hope of winning, apart from Turnbull.

That's redundant anyway, no one in the Libs wants a leadership spill between now and the next election.

Well, yes it is redundant. But good to hear other thoughts

    you have
    Eric Arbets
    Christopher Pyne
    other less preferable people
    Julia Bishop
    Bruce Billson
    and the loathsome
    Joe Hockey
    Barnaby Joyce

Just to point at the house of representatives. In regards to what you think of them, they are all better than Abbott.

Imagine sending Barnaby to the G20, god knows what he'd say. Lol. katter could be his secretary, Slipper the chauffeur, and Oakshot pre speech entertainment. What a circus. Lol.

Just having fun Garry, no malice intended.

Don't forget Garrett, he could hand out flyers and wiggle around a bit, and Gillard could make some scones with Mum and Swanny could butter em up and slyly slip them up all the world leaders butts.

they all are, but they are all preferable than Abbott at this point in time. For me the only real alternative is Turnbull, But he will need to actually start the ball rolling.

Christopher Pyne hasn't got the finesse or the manner - too negative; Julie Bishop is in the same ball park as Pyne - she is one scary looking women; Barnaby is a national, so would never get a leadership gig and joe hockey is just a big baffoon...IMO. Thery're so hard faced this mob, it is not funny. Eric Abetz and Bruce Billson have got countenances that you can at least look at without fearing you are going to be cursed. Joe Hockey has a countenance that a mother could adore but is a baffoon.

Turnbull is still my pick or bring back Costello. Costello would go down as one of our greatest leaders if he was given a chance IMO anyway.

Howard had the numbers, it had nothing to do with balls. I'm sure if the numbers were backing him, there would have been a challenge. Abbott and co had a sinister plan, and it wasn't costello for PM. There were a few of them chomping at the bit.

He had the opportunity, numbers were close the last time, a matter of two votes it seemed. Turnbull is in the same situation currently.

Hey TV, I don`t mind Julie Bishop, admitedly, she can see around corners, which couldn`t be a bad thing. Barnaby needs to grow up a bit, and Hoe Jockey needs a glass of cement. As to Turnbull, if you were ever cornered into shaking his hand, you`d need to count your fingers immediately afterward. I`d like to see Costello come back & take over the conservatives. If he is going to do it, he has to do it very soon. As to Abbott, he`s an accademic, which says it all really, probably never even had a paper run as a kid.
