Whatever side of the political fence you sit on, you have to admit he was WAY cooler and more at ease in the public eye. I mean this guy was a natural who had it all: Charm, intellect, physical fitness, gravitas, humor... Watch him in this: <iframe width="854" height="480" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Trump is just nowhere near him...
You forgot to mention his horrendous policies and lies. I was counting the days and hours until he left, about six months into his second term. Good riddance to awful rubbish.
Oh come on, you have to admit he was slick. I'm not talking about his policies, I'm talking about the way he could convey them. He was even better than Clinton at that. Reagan was pretty good, too. But neither could hold the professionalism he exuded. Bush II was better than Trump but they're both PR disasters waiting to happen
What was good about that was that you were kind of proud when he was at international meetings. We had the coolest president. Merkle was motherly and professional, Burlusconi was a braggart, Cameron was snide, Putin's socially inept, Xi's invisible, but Obama was cool. I literally grimace at the thought of Trump in international gatherings. People are just not going to talk to him unless they have to. Its cringe-worthy.
He was very statesmen like. Always careful with his words, which was why he often spoke very slowly. He had good optics, gave great speeches, and did do some good for the country. He helped cut our deficit in half, Obamacare was able to get more health insurance coverage for millions of more Americans. Osama Bin Laden was killed in a semi-successful raid. The economy in general is much more stable today than it was back in the 2008 recession. But he also wasn't that great of a President either. Obamacare was also just a Republican healthcare plan that was designed to benefit the insurance companies, and now its skyrocketing premiums are screwing a lot of people over. Despite the deficit being cut in half, our national debt has also risen tremendously. He expanded the war on terrorism, and yet now there are more Al-Queda and ISIS terror groups positioned in almost every corner of the world. Thats not something he solely deserves blame for, but its been creeping out of control during his presidency. You could also argue that he is a big reason why the Democrats lost the 2016 election on almost every level of government. The party doesn't stand for anything, and a lot of people feel like he didn't do enough to help them. Obama was more concerned with his legacy and didn't use some of his powers like the Bully pulpit to aggressively push a liberal agenda. He just spent 8 years playing it safe and in the end it didn't really give Democrats a leg to stand on politically. That is half of the equation as to why Donald Trump is president today.
Obama's the kind of guy I'd get a beer with. Not the kind I want running my country. I've got some great beer buddies but none of them should be the leader of the free world. Was Obama cool at times? Sure. He busted a fat chill with Jay Z. I don't want that associated with the Presidency though.
I actually miss all 3 of our immediate past presents because looking at now I'm sure they're really chill people who just wanna watch football and get drunk somedays.
I'll give you 20%, with big chunks of the remainder going to the Democratic establishment acting dishonorably to Bernie, and the absence of better candidates than either Clinton or Bernie. And of course Trump's ability to dog whistle racists and the Republican party's failure to control its far right to provide a better candidate. Finally, Wikileaks / Russia and Comey take about 5-10 %
I don't miss Obama at all. Obama was a useful idiot used by the Left. Obama often bumbled without his teleprompter. As far as him being some kind of fitness model, Obama was a heavy smoker. And your hero's Muslim faith is very evident: #1 “The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam” #2 “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer” #3 “We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.” #4 “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.” #5 “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.” #6 “Islam has always been part of America” (Muslims never played a positive role in the founding of the US). #7 “we will encourage more Americans to study in Muslim communities” #1 “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation” #2 “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.” http://www.youngcons.com/40-mind-blowing-quotes-from-barack-obama-about-islam-and-christianity/
He quit smoking and got fit, like I did. I can still outrun my kids. Well even if he were Muslim that wouldn't be relevant. He'd be the coolest Muslim I know of.
we never where a Christ stained nation, many people are christian but not a christian nation Ministers of the founding period knew that the Constitution didn’t declare the United States officially Christian—and it made them angry. In 1793, just five years after the Constitution was ratified, the Reverend John M. Mason of New York attacked that document in a sermon. Mason called the lack of references to God and Christianity “an omission which no pretext whatever can palliate.” He predicted that an angry God would “overturn from its foundations the fabric we have been rearing and crush us to atoms in the wreck.” Religious conservatives argue the Founding Fathers intended the United States to be a Judeo-Christian country. But President Obama is right when he says it isn't. http://www.salon.com/2009/04/14/christian_nation/ Treaty of Tripoli "The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen".
Maybe the Democrats should just hire an actor outright and run them for the role of President. Lots of actors are more qualified for the job than Obama was. Reagan sure was and so is Trump. Seems to be what they want. Incidentally, Obama was constantly whining about "muh racissss!" from the WH, not cool. Trump whines about the press, cool and funny. He gains more converts every day dissing the press than Obama ever did with his "cool while teleprompted" victim act. Trump is actually far cooler than Obama to anyone older than 18. If I want the Obama type of cool, I can just go down to the used car lot and listen to the first salesmen who comes up.
I miss the constant race card pulled by the left when someone disagreed with Obama. OH YEA! Almost forgot. The overuse of the word "bigot"
You'll have to admit, he might have done things as president that we didn't like but at least he didn't embarrass us in public.
I get the part about not liking policies or management styles, but awful rubbish? Clearly an honorable man who is a devoted husband and father..... geez. I don't understand the need to demonize my fellow citizens simply because I disagree with their vision for America. What, specifically can you point to that makes the man "awful rubbish?"
The W O R L D misses Obama. It was not just his poise, his stature, it was the wisdom that came out as he spoke. He chose his words carefully, and it was worth listening to. With the current so-called president, when he speaks while sitting, the seat cushion muffles the sound of his voice.....
Obama's apology tour, Obama's Iran deal, Obama telling Russia he'd be "more flexible after the election" collusions...list goes on. Embarrassed the hell out of us.
