Well, that is what I want. People replying, that is.

It actually started off good, the responses were for the most part respectful. Then certain users, who I will keep nameless (not hard to identify them however) started posting... And well, it ruined the "mood" of the thread I guess.

I appreciate the respectful responses by most of the people though.

You can't be religious unless you're a bigot. The holy books command it.

It is a violent, oppressive, and imperialist ideology founded by a genocidal pervert.

The polling data suggests that the majority of Muslims support theocracy as do the recent elections in Egypt, Tunisia, the disputed territories in the West Bank and Gaza, and even Turkey where overt Islamist parties have taken power.

I have never met a muslim I did not respect. I don't know enough about the religion itself to be much of a judge. But I know intelligent and caring people when I meet them, and the followers of islam rank high on that scale.

    Gods peace be with you.

I consider myself religious, and not a bigot.

    Are you religious?

I am not sure if you are a religious person or not, but Jazak'Allah Khair (means thank you and may God reward you) for sharing this. Very much appreciated! :)

If a person says that he's religious but that he isn't a bigot then he isn't a true believer in his favorite religion. That's certainly true for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

I don't consider myself to be religious. However, I suffer from the effects of a lifetime of religious brainwashing.

    I disagree with that.

And the reason I asked if you were religious is because this is quite a bigotted view itself. However you do not identify as religious ;)

I can cite a whole list of verses from the Bible, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon commanding the believers to be bigots.

I think the primary sources of hatred toward Islam, as with just about every other religious and other group, of people is overwhelmingly a combination of these factors:
    1. Ignorance: easily the most prominent source of all hatred
    2. People hate Islam because its just something to hate: it gives people a sense of purpose and adds to their conceptualized identity, ie Muslims are bad, I am not a Muslim, therefore I am not bad etc.
    3. A perceived injustice as seen stemming from the entirety of the Islamic religion.

    Here's a start.

Surah 2.221 = And do not marry the idolatresses until they believe, and certainly a believing maid is better than an idolatress woman, even though she should please you; and do not give (believing women) in marriage to idolaters until they believe, and certainly a believing servant is better than an idolater, even though he should please you; these invite to the fire, and Allah invites to the garden and to forgiveness by His will, and makes clear His communications to men, that they may be mindful.

Surah 3.28 = Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends rather than believers; and whoever does this, he shall have nothing of (the guardianship of) Allah, but you should guard yourselves against them, guarding carefully; and Allah makes you cautious of (retribution from) Himself; and to Allah is the eventual coming.

Surah 3.118 = O you who believe! do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people; they do not fall short of inflicting loss upon you; they love what distresses you; vehement hatred has already appeared from out of their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater still; indeed, We have made the communications clear to you, if you will understand.

2:221 says do not marry polythiest woman (ex, women from Quraish tribe) however it does not mean all non-Muslims. We can, and there are plenty of examples, even some in my family, where Muslims marry Christian or Jewish people. Which is permitted in the Quran. Why single out pagans? Well, I can think of two reasons. The first, is the Muslims population was small at this timel and so encouraging Muslims to marry Muslims would help the population grow. Second, seeing as how pagans fought and persecuted Muslims, this seems like it would prevent many problems if a pagan women disobeys her tribe and marries a Muslims man.

3:28 is misunderstood. Seeing as how Muslims can marry non-Muslims, and Muhammad (pbuh) even did this, and the Muslims were invited by non-Muslims to go to Mecca for safety, and the Muslims excepted the offer, it would seem this does not mean EVERY non-Muslim. Which it doesn't. What it is talking about is a specifuc group, who, There were a grouo of non-Muslims who tried to pretend to be allies while at the same time trying to convert them away from Islam. This refers to them. Some translations refers to the "unbelievers" aa "hypocrites".

Again, another warning in 3:118 saying to not trust the two-faced non-Muslims. "Breast" refers to heart.

Actually, to even suggest that Islam teaches for Muslims to isolate themselves from the un-Islamic world is quite ignorant. Throughout the history of Islam, from day one to know, this has never been the case. Even in a place like Saudi Arabia, non-Muslims are not (yet) held in seperate parts of the country. In a country where women can barely drive, the fact they do not forbid interactions between non-Muslims and Muslims should be proof enough.

To those who believe religion is to blame for wars, I suggest you watch the episode of South Park when Cartman goes to the future and there is war between several Atheist groups. It's later found out that the war is over what to call themselves. Religion is simply a median for humans to battle one another. It's just in human DNA to hate and fight.

The polling data also indicates that the vast majority of Muslims hate Jews, OjLeb is no exception:

"Another example of how some Jews are crafty."
    -- OjLeb

And despite being told repeatedly and shown conclusive evidence in the form of numerous genetic studies against the anti-Semitic Khazar conspiracy theory which states that the majority of the worlds Jews aren't "real Jews" which is only today supported by Christian Idenitity (neo-Nazi), Black Supremacist, and radical Islamic Jew haters he still proliferates said conspiracy in his every day Jews bashing which he attempts to hide on occasion by a thin veneer of "anti-Zionism":

"Ashkenazi and Khazar Jews aren't Semites. They are the founders of Zionism, not the actual Semetic Jews of the Middle East."

Just because a muslim man marries a non-mulsim why should he? According to the Koran non-believers are doomed to hell fire and are Allah's enemies. She might be a non-muslim when she says "I do" but unless she converts in a flash she will experience hell on Earth from her husband.

Surah 2.171 = The likeness of those who disbelieve (in relation to the messenger) is as the likeness of one who calleth unto that which heareth naught except a shout and cry. Deaf, dumb, blind, therefore they have no sense.

Surah 2.98 = Who is an enemy to Allah, and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael! Then, lo! Allah (Himself) is an enemy to the disbelievers.

The New Testament has similar verses so it's no big deal. Only a few fanatics really pay attention to their favorite religious fairy tales anyway.

Verily, those who have attained to faith [in this divine writ], as well as those who follow the Jewish faith, and the Christians, and the Sabians - all who believe in God and the Last Day and do righteous deeds-shall have their reward with their Sustainer; and no fear need they have, and neither shall they grieve. (Quran 2:62)

Of the people of Moses there is a section who guide and do justice in the light of truth. (Quran 7:159)

And there are, certainly, among the People of the Book, those who believe in God, in the revelation to you, and in the revelation to them, bowing in humility to God. They will not sell the Signs of God for a miserable gain! For them is a reward with their Lord, and God is swift in account. (Quran 3:199)

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other (not that you may despise (each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). (Quran 49:13)
